Hi,

Recently bought VCDS after buying a 2009 Golf 2.0 TDI GT as it had a couple problems, solved some already!
The most confusing one at the moment is "005784 - Please Check DTC Memory of Steering Wheel Electronics", while steering wheel electronics has no code?
It comes back straight away once cleared.

Ive seen 2 previous thread about this same issue, but they never posted the solution:
https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/cruise-control-inop-no-code.7048903/ (apologies, different forum)

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi and welcome.

I wonder if the thing the ECU is upset about is actually 10 - Park/Steer Assist (J446) rather than 16 - Steering wheel ?

What type of cruise control controls does this car have? 16-Steering Wheel is coded for: Cruise Control System (CCS) with 4 Positions via Blinker Stalk -- is that correct?

Thanks. Interesting point, you wouldn't think that parking sensor error would affect cruise control, but I don't know. Needs to be fixed anyway, so no harm in trying.
But seeing as that parking sensor error seems to be common, it doesn't seem to trip the cruise control for other people?

Not 100% sure what you mean by 4 positions, its this type of stalk:

Well, it's not a "parking sensor" that's being problematic, but rather the module.

Have you checked measuring values in 16-Steering Wheel and in the ECU to verify that these modules see the state of the cruise control switches changing when you change them?

Sorry, yes, knew that, just poor wording.

Measured the values in the ECU and it's seeing the main switch for sure, but as soon as that is touched, it puts it into the error state, so can't see any other state changes. Can't see the two side buttons doing any state changes, but wouldn't expect to see them unless the main switch was on and not in fault mode?

What about measuring values in the Steering Wheel controller? MVB 004.

Interestingly, it always says the main switch is off! Its definitely not doing nothing, as it is the main switch turning on that sets the fault off in the ECU (11xxxxxxx in 006 ECU) (error on the MFD).

Could the stalk be at fault somehow?

That is not inconceivable. Given that this is a ~12 year old car, perhaps try some contact cleaner?

I have taken it apart and cleaned, still the same. Strange that the ecu reacts to it but it appears in steering wheel as if it isn't doing anything.

Indeed. I'm not sure what to make of that.

I wonder if the thing the ECU is upset about is actually 10 - Park/Steer Assist (J446) rather than 16 - Steering wheel ?
@Npab21: I'm guessing of course - but @Uwe advice above sounds abundantly reasonable to me!!!

It's difficult to predict how a defective EEPROM in the hex10 module will effect other modules like the ECU, or CC function - but there can be little doubt that the module needs changing.

Have you done this as a first-order task (i.e. prior to focusing on the stalk switch)? If so, please clear DTCs and post a fresh auto-scan.

I'd continue with stalk CCS switch. If MVB004/1 and 004/2 in 0x16 do not show any changes when touching CCS switches/buttons on stalk, then stalk is bad (99%), something wrong with contact pins between stalk and module (0,9%) or 0x16 module is bad (0,1%).
I have replaced a big amount of stalks because of not working/poor working CCS switches. I'd suggest OEM part only. Cheap alternative parts do not work immediately or stops working after couple weaks. If You want cheap solution, go with used OEM stalk, buy couple or three and test them on car.

Working now! You were infact correct, I was am going to fit the new PDC module tomorrow, but I got a £14 ebay stalk just to see, and it works now! clearly a half broken connection, hence why there was still some feedback from the switch. Now need to order a decent stalk (or just wait and see how long the ebay one lasts).

Thanks for all the help guys, started with quite a few problems on this car, now just one to go, parking module!
