We are struggling to resolve this issue, no fault codes in systems , it is a 2008 R8 covered 60k and been well maintained.Came into the Worksop with an irratic clicking on the soft lighting, apparently the AC switches while driving, but also affecting window switches in door panels at the same rythem.
We have found, 2009 model info wiring info on our Alldata info, but 2008 versions different.
Clip of fault here

So after roaming around the internet we have followed 3 parts changes. First the ignition electric switch and a short associated look, no change, the dash panel dimmer, couldn't really see an association, but didn't want to keep coming back to it, and then the BCM, or cental electrics as the UK market calls it.
This part was on back order, so we hunted around and found a donor part in Germany. When it came the suffix was different, we questioned the supplier, they assured us it was a supersession, so we tried it.
It appeared to resolve the flicker, but although it appeared to be an R8 fitment, it didn't have the capability to run the headlight correctly.
So filled with some hope, when the new OCM turned up, we had some confidence this would resolve the issue, soft code transplant, reassembled the dash, no flicking, drove out the door lights flicking again just the same.
Put in a Audi tech ticket after loading up a ODIS log, they suggested checking the correct alternator, but as the fault occurs the same without the engine running, and with a battery support charger connected, this is an unlikely theory. They also suggested the AC panel itself, found a matching used part, no change.
Anyone experienced similar, of have the earlier wiring info, I suspect the 2009 was modified to overcome such issues, but we see quite a few early V8 R8's through, haven't noticed it elsewhere.

Any pointers will. be appreciated.

full scan on R8 showing a fault in radio and nav, both working fine, but would be annoying if they are related.

It's an RNS-E - so it appears at both address #37 & address #56.

That DTC often appears as a result of a Symphony II+ radio being replaced with an RNS-E as the antenna diversity systems are different (spatial vs frequency).

OK, but I really doubt this is the source of the problem the OP described.

Unfortunately, I haven't got any ideas what might be causing that problem.

Me neither, but I thought it worth answering for the sake of completeness.

Hello,

I have an R8 in disguise, a 2006 Audi A3 to be exact.. :p This A3 uses the same [09-Cent. Elect.] controller as the R8 above. The first one was a [8P0 907 279 F], then it was replaced it with a [P] due to a failed rear wiper motor that smoked the logic part for the left front turn signal light, go figure?

Code:
Address 09: Cent. Elect. Labels:. 8P0-907-279-30-H.lbl
   Part No SW: 8P0 907 279 P HW: 8P0 907 279 P
   Component: Bordnetz-SG H54 2903

A few years back, this 2006 A3, one day started to exhibit the 'flashing' interior lights too. Playing around, with the dimmer switch, I noticed that the flashing can be controlled. Turn it one way or the other, the flashing would slow down a bit or speed up, it was really random. Some times you can get it to stop flashing when you hit that sweet spot on the dimmer, but soon it will start to slowly flash again, like something was slipping out of phase, maybe heating of the circuits? I too, also replaced the dimmer switch. No luck. ugh.......

On the A3 the HVAC controller is also flashing in sync with the other lights (door switches, dash lights, etc), I was thinking of disconnecting the [J255-Climatronic Control Module] and see if the other lights return to normal, I have not done so as of yet. To me, it almost seems like there is too much resistance on a 58-instrument panel lighting circuit. I think the flashing could be originating in the J519 and is being influenced by something.

I wanted to try and measure this with a meter or a scope, however, after looking at the wiring diagrams, it would appear that there is the Comfort CAN-Bus involved. The instrument panel and other lights appear to be controlled from the J519 via the Comfort CAN-Bus signals to the other controllers (doors, HVAC, etc).

So that make me start to think, may be one of these controllers is some how interfering with the terminal 58's CAN-Bus lighting signal, like a back feed where the signal is getting bounced back (echoing) and the message for 'lights on' is getting corrupted?

I am still thinking that disconnecting the Comfort CAN-Bus controllers that use this terminal-58 signal, one at a time maybe necessary to confirm this possibility.

The 2006 A3 of mine does not get driven that much and I have gotten used to the lights flashing. But for Science, I can revisit the concern and see what I can come up with and post back here my findings.

I can make a video and post it to show you what the 2006 A3 is doing, just to confirm this is the same type of issue.

Hope this helps and let us know what you find!

Well I've moved to a similar area today, even with the chassis match factory wiring diagram the info is a bit vague. I removed the music system, which was also flicking in time, split the plugs and not surprisingly isolated the CAN lines.
The flashing is always delayed, and I thought it was interference from a component on the network.
Although I haven't swapped it out yet, I rigged up an ocilliscope across high and low CAN with an earth and observed, all appeared within limits and not in rythem with the flicking, which was disappointing, but the next test seems to be significant, although not really recommended, we briefly bridged the high and low, which should have forced the CAN generator to stall, it did not do so, so I believe this is the culprit.
When I ordered a new unit from the Stealers they said there have been several supersessions, which fills me with some hope.
Workshop info suggests it's behind the glovebox, I've pulled that out, it doesn't appear to be where stated, so I suspect it will be opposite side, as some of the RHD info is, but only some of the time !
I will update when I have replaced the suspect part.

just fitted the new CAN generator J533, wouldn't recode by transplanting codes, so had to use ODIS to recode, unfortunately flashing persists.

i didn't notice before, and not sure now, the flashing on the different areas is slightly out of phase?

there are faults showing for the aerial and h12 alarm, nav and music reception fine, so i haven't changed anything, but now wondering if it could be an influence? but having said that when i removed the radio nav unit completely it still flickered elsewhere, so i suppose unlikely.

i took a look in Central convenience while i was in ODIS, it offered to regenerated the coding and came up with a different long code, which i wasn't expecting,
I've recorded the old one just in case, and loaded the new, just analysing the differences. the glass break code they suggested the R8's didn't get, so i got to wondering is something else had been changed, and not coded correctly? ODIS didn't highlight any issues, but now wondering if there is a more fundamental coding issue?

I'm going to find the CAN wire terminal cluster and see if by separating the wires i can find anything causing an influence.

went to plug 12b on body control unit no12 green white suggested interior light control, initally removed plug, flicking persisted. unpluged each plug in turn,
12a stopped lights flicking, but after removing and tracing individual pins, all i have established is that pins 7 and 8 CAN info are both removed lighs stop, but also loose dash panel.
so inconclusive.

i was hoping to find the CAN connection clusters to split the loom, and loop out but cant find the node, usually tucked behind dash loom,

anyone with where to find, i welcome your assistance

after a bit more study, the CAN system is split into sub areas, infotainment, powertrain, convenience, might explain the slight delay in different areas, the climate control back lights to the door switch back lights, although ultimately linked, might explain the slight echo effect.
as i can find the CAN joint nodes at the moment, im going to remove the CAN generator plug an remove individual pins and see what that throws up.

Resolved !! i had a similar early R8 come in for a diagnostic check, so took the opportunity to get the BCM part number and the long code. This part number is 8P0 907 279 L , i found a second hand unit, coded it with our original long code, everything works and no flicking lights.
TPS the pats supplier told me that only the P suffix BCM had ever been fitted, but when i went back armed with the L suffix info, they told me that the L had been on the original build list, but not actually fitted. so a confirmation of sorts.
i fully expect our new unit is faulty, rather than the wrong part, and generally we have no issue with new parts, but the chances of having the same fault on 2 units must be very high.
i have a video here just to show the final solution,

Hi there... Great follow up post!

I find this very interesting... because the part number [8P0 907 279 L] you have now installed is an older part according to the parts catalog and was dropped in 2009.

From what I can see the part number [8P0 907 279 L] was most likely the original part that number installed when the vehicle was built [05/2008].

I can confirm the [8P0 907 279 L] was replaced with the [8P0 907 279 P] and is what is currently sold by the dealer for this vehicle and also for my 2006 Audi A3. Personally I suspect there is something going on with the controllers with the part number [8P0 907 279 P], as the [P] part seems to be an "all in one" part that fits all the vehicles from 2004 to 2014.

Looking around, I was able to locate an Auto-Scan (from 2013) of my 2006 A3 and I found that the original part number for this vehicle was [8P0 907 279 F]. I never had a concern with this part until the rear wiper motor failed and damaged this controller. I replaced it with the [8P0 907 279 P] (used part) and then if memory serves me well, the flashing light concern started shortly after?

ref: [8P0 907 279 F] >> [8P0 907 279 K] >> [8P0 907 279 P]

ref: [8P0 907 279 L] >> [8P0 907 279 P]

I would be tempted to try the [8P0 907 279 L] part on my A3, however the is a warning in the parts catalog that says:
"Dropped on xxxx, part number is not interchangeable with replacement (forward only or linear supersession)"

So it looks like I am stuck trying to find a [8P0 907 279 F] / [K], now I do not trust the [P] ..

I am curious how this works out for you guys long term, keep us informed!

Thanks again for posting,

drpeter

??????? *

Wow, neat find. I wonder what the Audi dealer would have done as they are not going to install or go looking for a "used" module ie F or L . There seems to be a conflict of some sort with the P version and I suspect the dealer would have recoded several modules so all modules were happy. *Not sure how returns work in the UK, but here in the USA, there is NO returns for electrical parts / modules for any reason. Thanks again for the follow-up !
