I have a question about my recent scan on my 2016 VW Tiguan. I cannot reach the position sensor via autoscan or directly after the scan through the address. I have run scan several times and receive the same outcome.

Since you have an MIB 5F module, I wonder if address 1C only exists in the Gateway for compatibility and data routing reasons?

Way back in the Mk.5 days, 1C was a separate module in cars that did not have any other source of position data and would actually interfere with retrofits to an infotainment system like an RNS-510, so what was typically done was to disconnect the module.

That sounds logical to me. I have the original scan I performed about 3 years ago when I bought the car. It has the same reading for address 1C when I ran it back then. I just wanted to check because I am trying to track down a random misfire and wanted to rule out all possibilities.

Thx

I'm quite sure that this has nothing to do with misfires. :)

OK, so this vehicle has ~60,000 miles on it. What shape are the plugs and coils in? Consider swapping coils between cylinders to see if the problem moves.

That was my first choice until I saw and ran the test in the measuring block section under ENGINE for misfires. Cylinder 3 had a "3" value and the other 3 cylinders had 0. So it points to cylinder 3 for a coil pack replacement.

Many things besides coil packs can cause misfires. Again, I would swap the #3 coil with another cylinder to see if the problem moves with the coil before buying a new one. If it does not move, that coil isn't the source of the problem.

Good point. I will probably try that out here in the next few days first.

Yeah, I never had anyone ask but that appears to be the case. Lower spec 5N Tiguans like my mom's Limited

... do not have 75: Telematics or Virtual Address 1C. There aren't any GPS Position MVBs in her maps either.

This is speculation but I believe non-Navi (Composition Media) Mk6 based cars use address 75 for the Compass and GPS Tracking services (i.e CarNet).

In regards to the misfires; Those coils are noted for failure as Uwe mentioned and I would replace the plugs every 40K in that engine.

FYI

I swapped the #3 coil with the #2 coil. The error did not move. I am still getting the same errors prior to swapping. The codes are still P0300 (random/multiple misfire) & ( P0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected).

So now I guess I will move the spark plug in the same fashion. Swap #3 and #2 plugs and see if the error moves from cylinder #3 at all.

Yeah, and if that doesn't help your fuel injectors are likely covered under the 10 year/120K extended warranty. You would need to ping the dealer with the VIN to confirm.

If you begin to suspect an injector is at fault this video should be helpful:

Thx for the injector video. I am moving down that thought path. When you mentioned the "10 year/120K extended warranty". Are talking about the extended warranty coverage for the Intake Manifold?

Similar. Intake manifold, valve body and fuel injectors are the most common warranty extensions for this car type. I had a pile of warranty extension letters when we traded in our 2012 Tiggy but I think the failure prone slip ring was a recall (rather than a Warranty ext).

Since you have an MIB 5F module, I wonder if address 1C only exists in the Gateway for compatibility and data routing reasons?

Way back in the Mk.5 days, 1C was a separate module in cars that did not have any other source of position data and would actually interfere with retrofits to an infotainment system like an RNS-510, so what was typically done was to disconnect the module.

this is only Composit Media, no GPS on it

Address 5F: Information Electr. (J794) Labels:| 5G0-035-MIB-STD2.clb
Part No SW: 5C0 035 200 HW: 5C0 035 200
Component: MU-S-S-US H21 0241

The question is - did he see GPS direction on cluster ?
Disable from GW installation list and check if iy back with "non registered" status

Just a follow-up to close out my original post on what I did to repair the misfires codes. The plugs were good (swapped them around). The ignition coils were good (swapped them around).

So, I had it scoped (at a dealership) to see if carbon was an issue on the intake valves. Yes, it was an issue especially in cylinder 3. I had all of the cylinder intake valves cleaned (not by a dealership). The method used was (manual labor) chemicals, wire brushes, and picks. Definitely runs better with no hesitation and of course no more CEL light(s).
