I have been watching what I am pretty sure is engine controller group 104 block 0 .

03L 997 016 P this is on my 2009 Jetta 2.0l diesel

comparison with exhaust temperatures and a little reading of the VW self study guide
Self Study Program 826803
2.0 Liter TDI Common Rail
BIN5 ULEV Engine

lead me to suspect the status has the following meanings/correlation

FF01 Passive DPF regeneration (usual status)
FF02 Active DPF regeneration (higher exhaust temps, and temps prior to and after DPF)
FF10 NOx regeneration (only shows up for a few seconds at a time, several per active DPF regen)
FF20 SOx regeneration (immediately after an active DPF regeneration, miles since regeneration reset to 0, but high exhaust temps remain)

looking for thoughts, and suggestions for additional data logging to verify the correlation of these values.

Noticed the FF40 again. within a time period without other regeneration activity but after the FF20 SOx regen (elevated exhaust temps for a longer duration than normal DPF regen, FF02)

not sure what it is doing. perhaps some diagnosis, calibration, or check. did not see any notable correlation with other readings.
