Good morning all,
I’m new to VCDS and have been using it wired to a laptop to scan my T5 with no issues, but when I try with my iPad or iPhone it doesn’t scan maybe 9 times out of 10. The progress bar doesn’t move from 0%.
Does anyone have an idea what I may be doing wrong? Like I say, I’m brand new to this and don’t know which colour lights should be flashing or what the red button on the unit does yet.
I’d also like to be able to change settings, for example on my Scirocco to change the kmh to mph. Is this possible with what I have, and if so-where could I find a how-to?
Thanks in advance.

We need to see the details of how your Scirocco is equipped, by you posting a full unedited VCDS Auto-Scan (use the laptop as that will save the scan automatically).

Please make a debug log by entering [Options] -> debug level = 001f -> [Submit] then autoscan. Make sure the log uploads or email it to us.

Using VCDS-Mobile. So I think you mean using your iPad; because (being pedantic) you could also use your laptop with just the web browser to view VCDS-Mobile too. :)

Okay, understood :0)

So I tried it and not much seemed to happen so I scanned with my laptop via the cable. That worked so I tried again with my iPad a couple of times but no luck. Before I packed away I thought I’d try with the ignition switched off and keys out, and it scanned.

The only thing there is when it had finished, the log was really short-basically gave the chassis number, a couple of lines of numbers and the battery voltage.

I saved it but when I switched off and came back into the house to try and retrieve the debug log and scan, there was nothing presumably because I’m now on the house WiFi and not connected to the hex net unit.

I did, but now can’t access it due to not being connected to the hex net unit’s WiFi.

I’m off to get piss wet through camping for the weekend  so I’ll get onto this again on Sunday.

When ever scanning / testing with VCDS: ignition ON ; engine not running. (occasionally engine running, but usually not necessary)

It wouldn’t scan with the ignition on, I must have tried it 20 times.

I would guess whatever module is causing problems is asleep when the ignition is off, but that is not really a solution. We need to see debug logs of why that module messes up the scan.

Well it finally scanned just once with the ignition on, and when I clicked send, this is the email it prepared;

VCDS Mobile 0.4544.0.4

VCDS Mobile: 0.4544
Data Version: 30000060

Chassis Type:7H
Scan: 01 02 03 08 09 0B 0D 15 16 17 18 19 1C 22 2D 37 45 46 47 56
57 6E 76 77 78 7D

It doesn’t seem very long to me, I also carried out the debug procedure mentioned above. I was there for over an hour with it, and on the iPad it would generally only scan when the ignition was off and the key was out.

I’ll dig my laptop out and try to post the whole scan up (I normally only use my iPad so it hasn’t been used online for a while)

My laptop can’t access the forum for some reason. I’ve tried other sites including Ross Tech, but directly or via the link on Ross-tech.com it says the page can’t be displayed as though there is no internet connection.

Okay, I emailed the scan to myself and posted it from my iPad. No idea why my laptop won’t access this forum 🤷🏻‍♂️

The debug log should be saved to the interface, in VCDS-Mobile do [View Saved Files]

Yes, I found and downloaded them but they all appear blank so I couldn’t post them.

Can you tell me the way to get around the issue that the WiFi network is from the hex net but I’m not connected to the internet at the same time please? I think that’s the reason it’s not downloading them.

I did try doing the debug on my laptop with it connected via cable but it won’t let me insert the “f” as it only allows numbers and not letters.

When connecting to your Hex-Net with your iPad; I presume you have the HN in Access Point mode? LED-2 on HN orange? If not orange, give a short click on the HN button.

Carry out the following:
Dowload the VCDS-Mobile app from Apple App Store.
Connect to the HN's AP:

frMNAVe.jpg

Open VCDS-Mobile app and connect to your HN. It will open Safari.
Click on [Options]:

bJG2NcX.jpg

Then on [Network Options]:

8KQgxH5.jpg

Tap on to Profile #2: Not configured (or the next clear one...)
Click on [Advanced Profile Config]:

YHsWv9A.jpg

The SSID is the name that you've called your iPad in Settings>General>About.
Security is WPA/WPA2 for iPhone or iPad.
Key is the password set in the Personal Hotspot setting:

KZh98Oc.jpg

When you click [Submit] you should see the new profile added. If not, you may have to do [Advanced Profile Config] again. I had to.
Tap to highlight your new profile in blue, then click [Set as active profile]:

rH6E99L.jpg

At this point, the HN will reset; and LED-2 will change from steady orange to flashing red. Flashing red means HN is now in Infrastructure mode and is searching for your iPad's Personal Hotspot SSID.
Switch on your Hotspot by swiping down from top right to open Control Centre, then give a long press in the wireless square to expand it:

UoP8U28.jpg

Click on [Personal Hotspot] to enable it. Wait until you see '1 Connection'. This is your HN connecting to the Hotspot SSID.
Also watch LED-2 on HN - it should go solid green. Solid green means Infrastructure mode and successfully connected:

neGRJOF.jpg

Re-open VCDS-Mobile app and connect to your HN. It will have a different IP Address than when you were in Access Point Mode.

Notice the blue 'link' icon in the iPad notification area? This means a device is connected to your Hotspot:

sJ2o53e.jpg

You may now continue using your HN in the normal way; however, now you also have access (through the iPad Hotspot) to all of the VCDS-Mobile Cloud Functions. Any files stored in your HN will also be purged and synchronised with your VCDS-Cloud account.
