@elektrocars: thanks for the auto-scan. Please tell us more of the back story for the car. Maybe describe how the car was factory built in respect of the original headlight fittings.

Since you have posted in the retrofit part of the forum, it's not unreasonable for readers to assume that some (all?) of the equipment in your pictures was not original to the car. This begs the bigger question as to what (if any) modifications were made to the factory wiring loom to accommodate the new gear.

The reason why it's important for readers to understand this matter is because the way that the BCM controls the exterior lamps (i.e via "Leuchte-sets") is specific to individual pins on the module housing connector. This means that if your car was not factory fitted with shutter type headlights, there won't be shutter wires in the original loom from the car-end of the headlight connector to the BCM

If this is so (i.e. if the car was factory fitted with halogen headlights-say), it's necessary to understand how the shutter pins on the new headlight fittings were connected to the BCM in the retrofit exercise. How was this done?

@elektrocars: hmm....... OK, then the retrofit is non-standard (by definition - not OEM), which makes it difficult to remotely diagnose!

The answer to my question - about how the car was factory fitted with headlights can usually be answered by looking at the car-side headlight connector. Normally, this connector has 10 x pins if incandescent fittings were factory installed on the car and it has 14 x pins if non-incandescent fittings were installed

But regardless of how many pins are on the car-side connector, the fact that pin #11 on the headlight-side of the connector is vacant is problematic. Clearly the new fittings are non OEM - maybe contact the seller and ask which pin on their product is the shutter-pin? Once you have this answer, trace the wiring on the mating car-side of the connector and tell me the pin number. We can then decide which Leuchte-set on the BCM to energise!!

@elektrocars : hmm........ OK, maybe it's my thick Aussie accent that's confusing the situation - if so, then you have my most sincere apology!

l'll try one more time: although launching into solution mode might appear to be an easy fix to your problem , it's of no use at all without having first undertaken the necessary diagnostic investigation (IMHO, of course).

As I have said before, the BCM on MQB platform cars manages the 35 x exterior lights on your mk7 in a very particular way- meaning that lamp management depends on which lamp is connected to which pin on the BCM connector - and this varies with the lighting equipment options that are installed at the factory. This is a key point in the resolution of your problem (again, IMO). I hope that you understand!

For example:

on factory fitted incandescent headlight cars for RoW model mk7s, the main-beam lamps are connected to:
- BCM pin #39, Socket B - Left side
- BCM pin #2, Socket B - Right side
on factory fitted non-incandescent (i.e. HID/LED) headlight cars for RoW model mk7s, the shutters are connected to:
- BCM pin #23. Socket B - Left- side
- BCM pin #22, Socket B - Right side

Hopefully, the information above explains that if your car was factory built with incandescent main-beam lights, the "shutter" pins will NOT have wires terminated on pin #22 & #23 Socket B of the BCM connector - and therefore, it's pointless using the adaptation channels from a car that is factory fitted with HID/LED headlights.

In the alternative that your car was actually factory fitted with HID/LED headlights, the fact that pin#11 on your non-OEM new headlights is missing (as you have said) means again that it's pointless using the adaptation channels from a car that is fitted with OEM HID/LED headlights. This is because the factory shutter pins on the BCM on your car are NOT connected to the shutter pins on your new non-OEM headlight fittings.

So please, I ask again with a degree of increasing frustration:
