Hello I am new to the forums and to VCDS. I have a 2020 GLI S with DSG and my brother-in-law has a 2020 GLI Autobahn Manual. We purchased the VCDS cable to adjust some things on our cars but are having trouble with a few settings either not working or not having any ECU info available.

Successful changes:
-Comfort close windows from fob
-Unlock Android Auto in motion
-Unlock all vehicle menus in motion
-Show fan speed in Auto mode
-Recirculation memory
-Adjust temperature warning (I think, but ideally I'd like to disable this chime entirely)
-Adjust brightness of reverse lights (Have not tested side-by-side, but I set them to 127)
-Disable seatbelt chime/warning (We both wear seatbelts religiously and do not need a reminder when moving the car at home)

Unsuccessful:
-Rain sensing window close
I was able to set these settings:
  1. Go to [09] Central Electronics
  2. Go to Secuity Access and enter 31347
  3. Go to adaptation channels and set the following:
  4. - (15) Access Control 2 - Regenschliessen_ein aus (Rain Closing on / off) - Select Active
  5. - (16) Access Control 2 - Regenschliessen_art (Rain closing Type) set to Permanent
  6. - (28) Access Control 2 - Menuesteuerung Regenschliessen (Menu Control Rain close) – Set to Active (enables the menu in the ifotainment screen)
But the second set of settings is done in long coding and VCDS says there's no information for our cars:
  1. 9 Central Electronics
  2. Rain and light sensor
  3. Byte 0…Enable Bit 2 “Regenschliessen aktiv”. (rain closing active)
  4. Bit 1 should be active too….Regenlicht aktiv (rain light active)
  5. My Old coding…..00A8DD
  6. My New coding….06A8DD
-Set comfort blink to 4 (I set the long coding and the turn signal still only blinks three times):

Select Control unit 09 (Central Electrics)
Security access
Access Code 31347
Adaptation
Aussenlicht_Bling
Komfortblinken Blinkzykien
Value: 1-5 Value 3 (Standard – 3x blinking)

-Disable door chime/alarm ignition on (Very obnoxious, the following setting did not work):
  1. 17 Instruments
  2. Adaptations
  3. Ignition active message; Trigger
  4. Change to "No display" (default value: driver's door)
-Gauge sweep (Not sure if this is exclusive to analog gauges as I have them and he has the digital cockpit. The following did not work):
  1. 17 Instrument
  2. Coding -> Function 10
  3. Byte 1
  4. Enable bit 0
Sorry for the long list but I'm hoping for some insight. I realize these are newer cars and things may have moved around. Many of the references I'm using are for MK7/7.5 Golf/Jetta and not specifically GLIs.

Thanks in advance!

@tigerfaust Hi.

Re comfort blink - the second part of the tweak is missing!! I have no idea why, but after coding, there is a subsequent in-car procedure needed -which on earlier model mk7s goes something like this:
  1. Press the Car button on the RHS of the discover/composition media escutcheon plate
  2. Press Set-up on the bottom RHS of the screen
  3. In the Vehicle Setting screen, press the Factory Settings panel (it's at the very end of the list at the bottom of the screen)
  4. In the Factory Settings screen, under Reset individual settings/data, press Lights
  5. Press Reset tab in the window that says Reset "Lights" settings-are you sure?
Unfortunately, the consequence of resetting Lights to factory settings is (not surprisingly) that any previously stored personal settings will be lost, so you will have to re-establish these values.

Re Auto-Rain-Close: This tweak has been problematic on many MQB platform cars - some can get the tweak to work and others cannot. There is a theory that I have read that says that the defining piece of equipment is the type of rain-light-sensor - but I found this not to be the case!

Re Disable door chime: Is the problem here one of expectation? You are aware that this tweak is only successful when the igniion is turned-on and the door is opened? If the engine is running, the "obnoxious" sound will still happen!

PS: Not related to any of your questions, but I note that ALL the DTCs in your scan feature the descriptor "Mileage: 34 km" and oddly 2 x different date/time stamps for this one distance-traveled. Putting aside the date/time stamp anomaly (which seems to happen a lot on auto-scans) - I suspect that the car might have been in the dealer yard at the time of the DTC s. If (like me) you prefer a cleaner scan report - try clearing the DTC s (these errors add nothing to the diagnostic report, other than confirming an absence of the dealer's pre-delivery procedure - which mostly down-here means a car wash and a smile as the buyer hands over her money!)

PPS: "Unlock all vehicle menus in motion" is a sensitive topic on this forum (Ross-Tech sees it as a liability matter, which of course is their prerogative). Anyhow, there is a gaping hole in my database about how this tweak applies to late model NAR cars. If you can spare the time, please PM the steps that you used for the tweak - TIA

Thank you for the reply. I will try the comfort blink again tonight as long as it's not 100 degrees and I can stand to sit in the car programming it.

I only want the rain auto close if it works without messing with the wiper control, doesn't require a locked car, and is somewhat reliable. I have seen forums of other models where they have these issues and honestly I'd rather just not bother unless someone has been successful with the MQB platform.

As for the door chime I just don't want it to beep at me when the car is in park and I open the driver door. Or if there's a way to adjust the tone/volume of the alert so it's not so horrible. My Ford Fusion makes noise but it's more pleasant. The current chime feels like nails on a chalkboard to me.

You'll have to elaborate on the DTC bit. I'm sure they just handed me the keys and took my money because it was the last 2020 in a 300 mile radius, a leftover that I got $4300 off for.

And as for the last bit: I'm an adult who very regularly has another adult in the car trying to use the menus in Android Auto/Vehicle settings. Vehicle manufacturers assume they have to protect me because I'm too a-stoopid to know when I shouldn't be messing with menus and I reject that wholeheartedly. There are these things called passengers and nothing is more frustrating than having to pull over or pause a road trip to connect a new device. These settings were tedious, but very easy to defeat. I knew better than to ask about the auto start-stop because that conversation never ends well. I'll just buy the cable from the well-known auction site when I get tired of remembering to press that button.

My apology if you already know this- but Ross-Tech has an excellent interactive 0n-line manual for VCDS HERE. I've thieved the screenshot below from the manual:
autoscan-3.png

So, the easy way to "Clear all DTCs" is to use the button as shown (assuming that "Use CAN Command" is ticked and because your car uses CAN protocols for diagnostics - VCDS can do this without needing to access every individual module- neat huh?

I agree 101% with all that you say!! Nevertheless, the topic of VIM has been raised a number of times on the forum and Ross-Tech's response has remained steadfast; Due to liability concerns, Ross-Tech will not assist anyone to enable Video In Motion. So, when in Rome.........!

But many thanks for your PM.

Correct. When in Ross-Tech-Rome we do not discuss defeating safety systems designed by the OE to comply with transportation safety law. We also do not discuss defeating OE designed environmental controls. To allow such discussions in our forum makes Ross-Tech appear to be enabling such and muddies the waters on liability should an unforeseen circumstance occur.

@tigerfaust, you would never come after Ross-Tech for you understand what you propose. Will the significant others in your life understand? Should you wrap yourself around a pole, will those others honor your understanding of such things and leave it go? Truth is you cannot answer. You cannot know what your insurance company will pursue to avoid paying the claim nor what your loved ones might do as they grieve your loss.

Whether or not users who want such features think the liability is real or not, is not germane. Users are welcome here on our forum but we hold all to our rules. We do not speak of safety system or environmental system deletes/defeats. These are not supported by Ross-Tech.

@DV52

Thank you for this additional step. I have successfully set the comfort blink to 4 instead of 3. I have a pretty good answer as to why this is necessary: Think of the Infotainment menu settings as your user profile. Once you've created the profile it grabs all the default settings and you modify it from there. Changing the Comfort Blink setting with VCDS adjusts the default settings, but not your personalized profile. Resetting to default now wipes out your personalized settings and they revert to the new default. There is no confirmation in the GUI as there was only ever a checkbox for "Blink 3 times" and not a choice of 1-5 blinks.

@Bruce

There is no further need to elaborate. I did not and will not post publicly how to defeat these settings. But to be clear, I am not messing with Video-in-motion per DV52's message. (Assuming VIM refers to playing a literal video while driving)

So now I'm just looking for solutions to the Gauge Sweep, Door Ignition-On chime, and cold temperature warning.

@Bruce:

I "feel" responsible for your response to @tigerfaust because OP only mentioned VIM in passing and because it was my dialogue that perpetuated discussion.

As I hope Ross-Tech has understood from my words, I have deliberaely acknowledged in both of my posts above that it really doesn't matter what individual forum members (like me) believe - as accommodating as he is, ultimately the Benevolent Dictator isn't running a democracy here; this is Ross-Tech's forum and Ross-Tech rightly sets the rules (hence "when in Rome....")

As for your graphic example - I agree 100% with the sub-text of your words; care must always be taken to understand the ramifications of our decisions - this is very much a risk-management matter. I spent the best part of a decade formally dealing with risk-management practices (in financial markets) and my one abiding lesson from that period was that sound "consequence analysis" underscores very good-decision made by a trader (together with a smidgen of luck)

However, to be brutally honest (and without wishing to open-up debate again) your scenario equally applies to tweaks involving the Brake module, the ACC module and virtually ALL driver assist modules - all of which are permitted/encouraged here!

Please understand that my replying in this manner is not a suggestion that Ross-Tech should, or needs to change it's stance on VIM (as I have said, it's entirely Ross-Tech's call). Rather, I'm simply providing a counter-view which has been used many times in previous discussions - as a balance to the issues raised in your example and as a demonstration that the forum does allow differeing views.

So, again for emphasis (because it's important to me that you understand my purpose) - definitely no offense intended in my reply either to you, or to anyone @ Ross-Tech)

@tigerfaust
I'm delighted read about your success -albeit I'm not sure about your explanation as to why!!

In respect of VIM and to assuage my Catholic guilt, Mea-culpa. :)

Don

PS: "cold temperature warning"?

Understood @DV52 and @tigerfaust. The post was not just for your edification. It was also for those who may read this thread and may need to know Ross-Tech's position.
