It runs a scan and comesup with the below.

I don't seen anything missing a .ROD file in that scan...

It will not allow me to click onto any of the modules on the LT3 tab "no response from controller".

We've had a few reports like that on LT3s lately -- Auto-Scan is OK, but can't communicate with individual control modules. It makes very little sense as to how/why that could be, but apparently either the interface or the vehicle is in some sort of uncooperative state after the Auto-Scan. I've suggested the following to at least one other person:

After running an Auto-Scan, cycle the ignition off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. Can you then access individual modules?

If not, power-cycle the interface. Unplug it from both the vehicle and the PC. Wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Can you then access individual modules?

I don't recall having gotten any feedback. We'd appreciate it if you could provide some.

Hi Uwe,

I've tried both suggestions and end up with the same result.

OK, I'd like you to try an older interface. Working on getting you one.

@topcat2006 We've dug out a (well-used) HEX+CAN interface.

If you're willing to test that out on the Crafter and give feedback to Ross-Tech, we'll post that out on Monday to the same address you used for your HEX-V2 order.
Is that ok with you?

Afternoon and Morning @Mike@Gendan and @Uwe . The interface arrived whilst i was working away last week. I've just tested it with some success. Scan below these points.

  1. LT3 Tab doesn't work.
  2. I can only access the engine controller.
  3. I have been able to successfully enter cc coding in the engine module, unsure if its worked as I don't have time to test today due to having my Treg on the ramps for a full service.
If you need anything else please let me know.

Tom

Can you please elaborate what you mean by this?

-Uwe-

Sorry @Uwe, I thought after I posted it I didn't explain myself well enough but haven't had time to go back and do so.

None of the controller tabs in the LT3 tabs worked, I kept getting "controller not found", including the engine tab which worked in the non LT3 tab.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Comparing the two autoscans 11 days apart we might be looking at apples and oranges here. What would be helpful I think is the following
-Put a charger on the battery
-HEX-USB+CAN autoscan with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-HUC-1.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
-HEX-v2 autoscan with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-Hv2-1.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
-HEX-USB+CAN autoscan with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-HUC-2.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
-HEX-v2 autoscan with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-Hv2-2.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder

Send us the 4 archives and the 4 autoscans (support@ross-tech.com)

That will let us compare variability due to the interface but also anything inherent to your controllers which aren't in the best of shapes based on the DTCs in there :)

@topcat2006 Thanks for the files. @Eric will be back in the office later this week so you should head back from one of us before the weekend.

If that doesn't happen on or before Friday feel free to bump this thread up.

Thank you for the debugs and autoscans; it is rare enough to get exactly what we ask the first time that you should be given credit for it :)
As I suspected once we have a battery charger and scan in the same timeframe, the 4 autoscans are very similar.
*HUC1 failed to retrieve DTCs in 01. From the debug file, it *looks* like VCDS lost access to the USB device. It's possible Windows is putting the HUC into selective suspend. You should check/change this here:
3ZW8MBU.png

Another possibility is that your CPU is a little on the slow side loading the ROD data on the first time VCDS connects and this leads to a loss of connection, even though VCDS is doing its best to keep things alive.
*Both HUC1 and HUC2 failed to connect to 95 at all, while the HV2 autoscans connected but couldn't retrieve DTCs. This is because the ESP in 2012+ uses a different protocol from the previous years and we haven't gotten that quite sorted out yet, but the fact that the HV2 connects shows we're on the right track (and goes against other "but this used to work with a HUC" reports we've gotten without any debugs to back them). It's looking like they moved to a more "VAG" UDS as opposed to the MB controllers in the previous years, and we need to adjust our DTC read request in consequence.
*The only other difference in autoscans is the DTC tips in 01 that VCDS displays with the newer interfaces and not with the older HUCs.

Now that we know what talks and doesn't in an autoscan with HUC and V2, we can move onto the original issue which is direct connection to an individual controller. I'm less certain of a testing plan here because it seems things rarely work(?) with either interface. Let's do this first:
-Put a charger on the battery (I'd really like to see more than the 12.0V we had even with your recent autoscans), if you don't have one, let the engine run the whole time.
-HEX-USB+CAN TRY to connect to and check then save DTCs in 01 and 93 with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-HUC-Direct1.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
-HEX-v2 TRY to connect to and check then save DTCs in 01 and 93 with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-Hv2-Direct1.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
-HEX-USB+CAN TRY to connect to and check then save DTCs in 01 and 93 with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-HUC-Direct2.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
-HEX-v2 TRY to connect to and check then save DTCs in 01 and 93 with debug 1024, close VCDS, zip up the .DLM files in the Debug folder in an archive (Debug-Hv2-Direct2.zip for instance) and clean up the Debug folder
Send us the 4 archives and 4 potential log files.

Hi @Eric ,

Thank you for the detailed reply and I'm sorry I have not been in touch. I've been rushed off my feet at work.....

I work as an engineer with a responsibility for providing specs for programmers to write software. I then get the software and check whether it actually does what the spec asks it too - and then detail the info necessary for the repair of any unwanted "features" (bugs).... As an added bonus I work with ISO 11783 and J1939 and industrial flavours of CAN...

I'll be back home at the weekend so will send the extra info in then.

Thanks again.

Thank you. At this point, I'd just like you to put your interface on the beta channel using VCIConfig, upgrade the codeblock to v4548, and try VCDS with your LT3 again. All connectivity issues should be solved; the ESP ROD issue is still something we need to look at.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the post above. I've done this and had the engine running.

I've just sent you an email with hopefully some useful files. I still get the "no response from controller" from quite a few modules including the engine.

Thanks again.

According to that scan from June 26th I see you can connect to 11 controllers, which is normal for a Crafter with these factory options. Specifically, the scan shows you reaching 01, 93, 94, 95 (ROD Error), 96, 99, 9A, 9B, B0, B4, and B6.

Which modules do you feel you are missing?

Hi Sebastian,

The only controllers I can read are:

93 Immo
94 Airbag
95 ESO -No rod File (expected)
B4 Central Elect
B6 Steering Wheel

For anything else I get "no response from controller"
