Hello to all forum users. My name is Krzysztof, I am from Poland and I have been repairing electric cars for several years. I am asking for help in coding the ESP ABS Bosch 5.3 pump

Hi there. I seem to have the same problem with 2002 eurovan westfalia mv. It simply won't remember the coding. I just just got this (USA) clock spring back from a reputable shop in Germany.
Is there a setting I can adjust in vcds in order to better communicate with the clockspring so that it accepts the coding, or am I doing something wrong?

Your video is pretty much incomprehensible unless I slow it down to 1/4 speed.

It is totally normal that the coding won't stick if you cannot successfully complete the steering angle sensor calibration. That's the control module refusing to keep the coding, and not something that and adjustment to VCDS will change. So we should try to determine why the steering angle sensor calibration doesn't work.

Forget the login and coding for a moment. Check the values you are seeing from the steering angle sensor without any of that. With the front wheels pointed straight ahead and the steering wheel centered, what value are you seeing? What values do you see when you turn it some to the left and some to the right?

Oh, and please post an Auto-Scan for context.

@Uwe, I posted a time-lapse because I am very slow with the VCDS programming. :p

At this point, I have two clockspring units.

Unit #1 is (probably) original to the car. I sent it to a place in Germany that has fixed many clocksprings and other auto electronics. They billed me for the repair and the repaired unit won't accept the coding.

Right after I connected it, I was delighted to see non-0.0 values when measuring units for the steering angle sensor but it would not ever hold the coding. I saved these in a CSV log file from VCDS, here's a screenshot of it. Even though it showed non-zero values, it would not store the coding and now it always shows 0.0 values as shown in the time-lapse video I recorded earlier.

Below is the relevant information for Unit #1 taken after it was repaired. I tried running version 21.3 of VCDS temporarily to see if it would make a difference, but it does not, it is the same output with version 21.9.

I am trying it with a different clockspring unit now, I'll call this unit #2. I bought unit #2 off eBay and don't know the history of it but it does retains the workshop coding.

With unit #2, in VCDS, I have a similar problem as with unit #1. I do not see anything but 0.0 degrees for the calibration regardless of the actual wheel position. Unit #2 does save the coding though!

I would like to fix the ABS/steering-angle-position sensor and I'm getting frustrated. I've gotten pretty good at removing steering wheel. Here's the auto-scan from unit #2.

Any insight is greatly appreciated!!!

In summary
For a moment, unit #1 did show measurements for the G85 sensor, but it never accepted workshop coding. I tried to get it to accept coding repeatedly. After many tries, unit #1 does not show measurements anymore and now it always show 0.0 in measure values. Unit #2 does accept the 06639 coding with ease, but it also always shows 0.0 in measure values.

Thanks Jetta97.

The problem I have with Unit #2 is that it always shows 0.0 in measure values even after the function test.

Since Unit #2 accepted the coding but also shows 0.0... I'm guessing this means there is a problem with the second unit, probably something mechanical and/or related to the optical sensor used to measure the steering angle and it's not a problem with coding? Ugh, I think I just answered my own question.

That's the control module refusing to keep the coding
I appreciate your help. Reviving this after many months...
Which "control module" were you referring to?
The G85 part, or the ABS control module?
I'm still having this problem and my T4 simply does not want to save the coding.

The ABS. It will not keep the coding if you don't successfully calibrate G85 in the same session.
