Tell us what coding you have changed?

You can try by reverting the changes you made to original...

As far as I know I have already tried changing back. I’v been trying to get the mirrors to fold on full lock so its only the comfort settings I have changed. I added front fogs, cruise control and sat nav last year and all were working fine with no problems or fault codes. Only other thing I have done is repair the positive and earth wires to the alarm horn as this was faulty and giving a fault code. I Went to replace with new horn then noticed the snapped wires so repaired those, did not replace the horn-sounder now no fault codes and alarm works.
It is a very weird fault, it’s as if something is telling it only to power up the heater blower and fogs when moving, as soon as I’m stationary it all switches off.
I was thinking go back to my original coding when I bought the bus then go though it again and add the fogs, cruise and sat nav.
It’s has not always been this way, before the horn repair the heater-blowers definitely worked when stationary. ☹️

I'm not familiar with MY14 Transporter - but in the hope that it helps, here's a side-by-side comparison the BCM long-code-strings from the 2 x auto-scans:

I have no idea what this means (because I have no data about the purpose of the software switches) - but lots of Bytes are different!!

As far as I know I have already tried changing back.
Have you checked the CodingLog.csv and AdpLog.csv files that VCDS auto-saves to see what changes you made and that they have all been reversed?

Thank you for your help Don, what is best action, should I go though the code Byte by Byte and change the Hex and Binary manually to match the post#6. And then it will be as it was in 2019 ?

@d12dub: My apology if I have confused you with my post - definitely not my objective!!

To add to @Uwe's response - the way that I normally use the information in my table is to refer to the Long-Code Helper screens.

Your auto-scans confirm that the BCM on this car is associated with a "Label file" (see reference to "Labels:. 7H0-937-08x-09.clb") - so these screens are available to you, albeit I don't beieve that your version of VCDS cable allows you to access the "yellow" LCH screens (but this might not matter)

Anyway here's an example of how you might use the information in my table above:

The first difference between the 2 x auto-scan results in my table is Byte 0. If you refer to the comparison results:
  • Post #1 Byte 0 = hexB9 = Binary 10111001
  • Post #6 Byte 0 = hexB1 = Binary 10110001
The digits in the Binary number are the individual Bits (i.e. Bit 7, Bit 6..... Bit 0). You can think of Bits as being separate software switches that can be either OFF, or ON.

However, the odd thing about Binary numbers is that they are read from right-to-left (I have no idea why) - so the right-most digit is Bit 0. Therefore, if you count from the right- for the 2 x Binary values above, you will find that the 4th digit is different (highlighted). This means that Bit 3 has been changed (because Bit 0 is the right-most digit)

So - with this simple process, you have discovered that Byte0, Bit 3 has been altered between the 2 x auto-scans. All you then need to do is to refer to the Long-Code Helper screen for the BCM to find what this Bit does!! Then simply decide whether this function is in any way pertinent to your problem?

Then repeat the same process for the next varying Byte

Easy-peazy Lemon-squeazy :)

Don

It is a very weird fault, it’s as if something is telling it only to power up the heater blower and fogs when moving, as soon as I’m stationary it all switches off.
Hmm... can't see anything wrong with the coding - neiither can't see how you could code such behaviour.

By any chance related to having brake lights on? Third/top rear brake light filled with water?
Any other "coincidences"? Does having headlights on (or other consumer) make any difference at standstill?

I'm no coding expert but I would make a copy of the current configuration and put it back to how it was on your original scan. DV52's excellent chart shows quite a few changes so you could at least give it a try. You should be safe as long as you keep copies and notes of everything you do.

One explanation I can see for the unusual results for coding changes is the air quality sensor. On T5's it is in the plenum chamber and coincidentally not that far from the alarm horn you repaired. It's worth checking that the wiring for it isn't in the same state as the horn.

The air quality sensor does have some unusual functions on some T5 versions. For instance, on some models when you select reverse the heater switches to 'Recirc'. It's not that big a stretch to imagine the ECU also using the road speed signal for this or other heater functions. I would have a good look at DV52's chart and re-instate the previous coding.

I don’t think it’s related to brake lights or anything else it is just the speed, very strange rear passenger heater also only working above 10mph ☹️ I have time today so going to go though it again today🤞

Thank you 🤙 Yep it has always switched the heaters to recirculation when in reverse gear only, think that is normal 👍

Thank you Everyone who took time to help it’s much appreciated!! Thank you.

Gone back to my oldest scan coding then added the fogs and cruise back in, All is working as should again front and rear climate plus fogs all working when stationary again 👍👍

I only have more job I’d like to sort regarding the comfort closing. I can’t get the mirror fold and sunroof close to work together, it’s either one or the other ☹️ Which section should post that question in please?
Many thanks Dean

Dean: well-done!!

Apropose of your question ........ given that you are referring to coding changes only - perhaps the Tweaks sub-forum (maybe)?
