RNS510 sound quality advice

Merry Friday!

I fitted a RNS510 in my 2008 Passat Highline a while ago. I have never been impressed with the sound quality since fitting it. It's not as full of a sound which the original VW radio provided albeit without the frills. I have played with the treble / bass settings to no real improvement. I'm starting to wonder if i can unlock better sound in the coding. . . Can anyone assist pretty please. Joe.

Since you don't have any kind of amplifier visible in this scan, I would try changing Byte 1 (the second byte, since the first byte is Byte 0) from 01 (Volkswagen Sound System) to 00 (Sound System not installed).

Quick follow up. I have adjusted the coding as recommended and it's instantly much better! Thanks Uwe!

The sound must have been pretty bad. Basically, you radio thought you have an external amp so it was only outputting low voltage (pure signal) which is meant for an amp to amplify and then feed into the speakers. In your case that was going directly to the speakers.
With the code change suggestion from Uwe you have enabled radios internal amplification so your speakers are now getting much higher amplified signal.
