Tried to change some settings on a '2019 MQB platform model in 09 Central Electronics module through Adaptation menu but received a fault message due to my WSC being with null figures on equipment value (WSC 00020 999 00000). This WSC is common to all modules in my car and believe to just be the factory default code for this car.

I of course get the following message:

"This appears to be an uninitialized module; valid WSC/Importer/Equipment data may be required.

Click [yes] for VCDS to use default values of 12345/123/12345.
Click [no] for VCDS to try the values currently in the module
Click [cancel] to go back and manually edit the values.
"

Having heard bad stories (setting not accepted, setting accepted but no change, no way of getting back to initial setting etc...) from people entering any values or using default 12345/123/12345 (most certainly with unofficial interface), I still wonder which option to choose. On other module with same message I selected "No" and all went fine, on this one it does not work.

I have 2 options left:
Select "yes" with 12435/123/12345
Select "Cancel" and going back to previous screen, VCDS allows me to change equipment value from "00000" to any number (I would most certainly change it to "00200" which also seems to be factory default on several other cars I checked (with different shop and region code though).

I want my option to be as stealth as possible and that it does not create any issues as above, not brick the module, still being able to go back and change settings. So help is needed because when it's coded it's hard coded and no way of changing it later.

Help! Thx, Phil

Nothing you choose is there is even remotely likely to to brick the module.

There is no harm in trying 00200 for the Equipment Number, but it may no work without changing the WSC as well. I'm also rather surprised to see 999 in there as the Importer Code; that's Canada, and it seems you're not there...

Thanks Uwe, I will try that and see if more changes are needed. Yeah I know 999 should be Canada but it's safe to say I did not buy an import as it's a T-Roc which was never sold there. VW may have changed its numbering policy or the importer codes in Europe are just random, I've just checked some of the scans I have and found 785, 995, 666, 257, 552, 823 as importer codes and 3 or 4 of them on a same car and even one full number that does not follow the rule: WSC 131071 1023 2097151

I have and found 785, 995, 666, 257, 552, 823 as importer codes
785 does not appear in my list, but I think I've seen it before too, and I think it's some sort of factory code.
995 is France, specifically France Villers‐Cotterets Europe Groupe VOLKSWAGEN France S.A.
666 is Macedonia, specifically Macedonia Skopje Europe TD KA‐DIS d.o.
257 and 552 do not appear in my list.
823 is Albania, specifically Mëzez ‐ Tirana Europe Porsche Albania Sh. p. k. Sky

Look at those in hexadecimal or binary. ;)

Octal may have worked save for the "9" :)

Sure, some of the importer codes make sense but finding on a single car modules that were accessed by several different country shops seem very unlikely or this car was may be caught in a flood and repaired with modules coming from everywhere in Europe

I'm pleased to report it worked as intended while staying stealth ;). I've just changed equipment number from 00000 to 00200 in the module menu and made my adaptations without issue. Scan still reports WSC 00020 999 00000 as if no change had occurred (I guess I could change equipment number to any value and scan would still report 00000), module Advanced ID is not reporting any changes.

Uwe, I just realized what you meant by looking up WSC 131071 1023 2097151 in hex or binary... I thought it was just a joke until I realized what they were ;)
