Caddy VAN lost ABS Coding (MK60EC1)

[MNZ]

Hey guys,

Scan attached, but story: Van was originally a 1.2TSI, we have swapped in BWS R36 engine and are working through some codings and engine faults, however the customer fitted Mk6 Golf R clocks to test them and the coding has vanished from the ABS unit. Can anyone help with what the coding should be?

That's going to be something of a challenge with an engine swap...

Let's start with the basics: Do the VINs stored in the ECU and the Immo/Cluster match, and do they match the physical VIN of the vehicle?

Hi Uwe,

The vehicle has been running for two months as it was, with the original Caddy cluster and key. The ECU has had the Immo removed from it and the ABS coding was still the original 1.2TSI coding. Everything was ok.

But after swapping in the Golf R cluster to test it, the coding has gone. This cluster wasn't coded to the car, he just wanted to test some functions.

It is now back with the original Caddy cluster but coding missing in ABS now.

Hi Barry, Going through this now with a AWD 20TSI swap in a Beetle.
The Caddy vin must appear in the ECU and in the cluster otherwise as I've understood it the ABS is not able to be coded.
I'm still trying to find someone that can put the Beetle vin in the Golf ECU without sending it abroad.

@MNZ I attempted to put my blinders on and build this coding as if the factory installed engine, trans, brakes, etc. were installed with the VIN digits of WV1ZZZ2KZCX148239 however we don't have a single scan from a CBZB engine installed in a 2K / 3CA chassis vehicle. I resorted to a few Google searches as well but the scan results were not from Caddy models.

I certainly can't fault the owner for putting a proper engine in this van however I don't believe we can assist. If you happen to have (or find) any scans from one of these 77 kW TSI CBZB equipped vans with the VIN and ABS coding string present please drop a link here so one of us can try to dig into it.

So, just to help anyone that reads this, I found the original coding in my debug list. Seems I must have tried some coding changes on it.

The correct coding was:

623C200D09260302460D04E79022C081300000

However..... I am trying to re-code to remove the fault, the vehicle has an R36 engine swap but with a manual transmission. However the vehicle was manual prior to the swap, so I can only imagine this fault is being generated by the engine control unit as it is missing the DSG control unit.

Yet the engine control unit doesn't have a fault for no communication with DSG?? We are worried there is hard coding in the ECU that won't allow manual, we have tried changing to manual with VCDS coding but it is rejected.

Correct.

I'm in Whangarei, and have an R32 drive train in my Touran. It's manual, but I ran it with the DSG Engine ECU during testing. Once the engine ECU was replaced with a manual version, that ABS fault disappeared.

I brought a new R32 manual ECU... I don't think the R36 engine ever came with a manual trans though

I didn't get too deep into it... but just deleting the fault code from the engine ECU did not stop the fault. It either needs some deeper changes so it doesn't even look for the trans, or the ABS itself may need modifying... but I'd be loathe to do that, in case it doesn't function as intended, when required!

It *may* be as simple as the ECU coding reflecting a manual trans... but the auto ECU won't accept it during normal coding (as you know) - It'd have to be an EEPROM edit, and that may be a-whole-nother rabbit hole.
