Golf GTD Mk7 Fault Codes Post Timing Belt Change

Hi

Just had my timing belt changed and when i drove away from the garage, the coil light came on flashing, im getting a cmp sensor (g40) fault from the auto scan.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Yes. They did not get the timing belt on right and things are not properly aligned. I would suggest getting it back to the garage as soon as possible. Don't keep driving it.

The mechanic came back from home (sat afternoon).Stripped it down and re done the job, with that fault code re occurring, could it be the sensor failing, would you incorrectly fit the belt twice? Im not sure you would. Not ruling it out obviously, ive sent the scan to him also, see what he says.

It does not report as a sensor fail. It reports a correlation error. That means the 2 sensors, the CAM and the Crank sensors are not syncing - ie, it is out of time. I doubt this is a failed sensor. I think it is a failed job on the timing belt.

So, the cars going in today, but what i have noticed is, when i clear the code, the next morning the fault isnt there until the car gets up to temperature? Any ideas why that could be?

Because as the engine warms up everything expands and the timing then goes out. I would be very worried that he not using the proper locking tools as to get it wrong twice already.
