Well that sucks. He was really helpful to me tracking down weird issues on my dad's old 2001 Audi TT; he never met me but treated me like a family friend. Sigh, so sad :( I hate things like this... condolences to the family and friends.

A very sad day.
As a Brit (at least I assume that's the reason), I only ever understood about 60% of what Jack posted, but what I did manage to grasp was usually insightful or entertaining.
The forums (and his family & friends) have lost a big character :(

Such sad news. I, like many others, didn’t have the pleasure and honor of meeting Jack. I only knew him through emails. I enjoyed his sense of humor and way with words. He truly had a knowledge and love for autos and was always able to help me solve my problems. He made learn to reach for my repair manual before asking for help, and I will always appreciate that. RIP Jack. You are a good man. Your wife and family will be in our prayers. 🙏

Oh, very sad news indeed.

I'll miss his interjections on the forum, I couldn't see any reason at all why some thought he was a bit sharp, but that maybe because I work in a company that has over 42,000 employees and I have over 900 regular contacts in my works' phone - I don't feel I've met 80 people in my life - but I've learned over the years that virtually everyone means well in their individuallity.

Jack used to make me laugh, he had a video up on YouTube (long since removed) where he was trying to demonstrate a multi-meter, load testing a wire or something like that, and he was trying to act all professional-like. I say 'trying'; because his little dog Sonny kept on wandering in and out of the way being inquisitive. :) He also showed in the same video, how his meter flashed and beeped if the probes were in the wrong sockets for current testing, "...for the moron!" :D:D:facepalm:

And a time when he was detailing one of his Far-Out ideas (sorry I can't remember which one [of many]) and Arthur (@vreihen) commented something like, "You're not one of, erm, you're not one of them 'Flat Earthers', Jack, are you?" That still tickles me. :)

So I hope Jack is zipping along on his perpetual motion/over unity/MMA thingy that he never did quite get finished. I'm truly humbled that he referred to me as 'Dr. Z' a few times on the forum, an accolade I'm not deserving of.

Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Christopher

Unlike most people here, I live close enough to Jack where I can pick up his home wifi. His shop is a mile from my house. He was my best friend for 25+ years, and I celebrated many holidays at his house over the years. He even saved the day at my wedding, taking my car over to his shop to knock a stuck rim off the hub and put the fourth race wheel on while I was getting suited up for the ceremony.

Part of my wedding agreement with my wife was an understanding that my Thursday evenings were Steak Night with Jack. It started out as a steak BBQ at the shop every Thursday evening for friends in the 1990's, and evolved into Thursday night outings to various area steak restaurants for dinner with friends. Sadly, my attendance has been limited since my long hospital stay a few years back, and I was completely absent for the last year because my medical situation makes me a high risk for complications from COVID.

Anyway, my wife was over at the house with Lori and his family as part of the vigil, and as dog-sitter while she was at the hospitals. Please keep Lori in your thoughts. Please also do not let your guard down, because whatever this strain of COVID is that's going around is playing for keeps.....

I not good at wordiness, so I hope I don't say something stupid... but:

When I saw a notification pop that you (Art) had posted, I was stoked - I miss your posts!!!

But this news totally shocked me and saddens me greatly. I'd never met Jack, or actually spoken to him, except this forum.

I too had trouble understanding all he was saying, but I usually liked where he was going and the "lead a horse to water" thing.

I'm really going to miss him and this forum will never be the same again!

Rest in Peace, Jack

My sincerest condolences to all that knew and loved Jack. Especially his familyMay God Bless and receive him.

Would have loved to have met him personally. I only knew him from the forum here, he told it like it was, too bad if you didn't like it, it's the way it works... get over it ! I hope he's found his "tinkering" paradise.

Rest in Peace Jack !

I started off reading this thinking where’s the bad joke? where’s the silly covid punchline? But sadly it never came. I fell out with Jack on here quite a few times over technical issues and silly issues. He called a spade a spade and there was no messing with him. I respect that but I would never tell him. His knowledge was second to none and again my stubbornness would never admit that to him.

He will be sorely missed on this forum and far beyond. My thoughts and prayers are with his close friends and family. Rest in peace and god bless Jack, many thanks for all your help and advice. I really appreciate it.

Just got told about this today. The thread is fitting. His passing is a loss to the community, and I'm sure a infinitely bigger loss to his family. This is sad news.

Shocked at this ! Very sad news I didn't know Jack but I loved his guidance and his way with words, he was like a teacher he would like to see how you got your answer so that you would learn and gain knowledge when most of the time I think he knew your problem immediately

Thoughts are with his family and friends

Found out from Bruce today that Jack has passed away.

Spoke to Jack over the phone many times and thinking about him always reminds me of how Jack loved his German chocolate.

He would always send you a few chocolate trinkets in the box of any parts you received from him.

Great guy and a sad loss for the community here.

R.I.P brother Jack.

Just heard the news. This blows.

Heck- I remember talking on a real phone 20+ years ago with Jack about Mk2 16v.

We lost a great guy. RIP.
