Hi,

Started to have issues with alarm on Polo 6R 2010, out of nowhere the car starts blinking few seconds after locking it - there is no alarm horn as it seems to be somehow faulty.
There is a DTC related to alarm horn but it can cleared, anyway it was there since ~2 years and there never was any issue with alarm.

Now back to main question. Does 12 as alarm source means that alarm is on because there is alarm horn issue? The DTC can be cleared but it doesn't change anything.

Below is the autoscan and the log of 20-22 groups of BCM.

Can anyone point me where should I be looking to find out

All of the info I located makes it look as if 12 is always the Alarm Horn. Yours has a fancy LIN siren rather than a dumb one

Subsystem 4 - Part No: 1K8 951 605
Component: LIN BACKUP HO H10 9003
Coding: 000000

.. so I would be tempted to unplug it. While doing so you can see if there are any obvious wiring issues and that DTC should turn into a non-intermittent one. That should also allow you to see if the car locks properly (without the rapid flashing light) during the test.

I suppose a hands-off approach might be to turn off coding Byte 5/6 but I don't know how it will react if a smart, but likely flaky, siren is still on the LIN bus?

@Dana: Hi. Interesting synopsis of the problem - but riddle me this (please):

Assuming the clock on the Polo can be believed, OP's auto-scan suggests that the alarm DTC is very aged indeed (in fact, it's positively prehistoric!! ;)).

And, notwithstanding the 2015 date of first registration, Fault frequency=4 in the intervening time up-until the date of the scan is even more intriguing (albeit I'm not sure how this number fits with Reset counter=1 for this DTC - maybe all 4 x fault registrations happened within the first ignition cycle? ).

In any event, and whilst not discounting your recommendations in any way, I wonder if the DTC (which appears to be the focus of discussion) might be a red-herring? I suggest this because of the following 3 x remarks from OP's first post:
  • "the car starts blinking few seconds after locking it"
  • "there is no alarm horn"
  • "2 years [i.e. after the date of first registration of the DTC] and there never was any issue with alarm"
So, rather than being a DWA issue, perhaps this problem is actually related to the car's locking facility - maybe?

Again, I'm simply reading between the lines and joining imaginary dots (and other clichés) - just guessing really!!

Don

Based on DTC and my experience I'd suggest to check wiring to and connector at H12. If ok - replace H12. Those use to die. And those have built-in battery with approx 5 years lifetime.

Hi Don,

In my experience, if these Adp channels are not available in address 17

[*IDE00317-IDE00502*] Date - Year
[*IDE00317-IDE00503*] Date - Month
[*IDE00317-IDE00504*] Date - Day

.. the car doesn't know the actual date and it will set ridiculous FF date stamps. If that's what's happening here the time can be trusted (providing the clock is set correctly) but the Year/Month/Day are nonsense.

Martins is likely correct here, and H12 may just be faulty, but the OP may want to see if 17 supports those channels. I know they are not supported on the NAR market Mk6 based cars and that 17/25 appears to be from a similar era.
