I have a 2018 Atlas and a 2017 Passat (NMS). I totaled my Passat yesterday. The steering wheels appear identical save for the flappy paddles on the Passat wheel. Is it possible to swap the steering wheels?

@801 : Hi - and sad to read about the Passat (I hope no one was injured).

As for your question, I'm not familiar with the CAN network structure on PQ46 platform vehicles, but the MQB multi-function steering wheel module is a LIN slave of the CAN Gateway module (@hex19). This set-up is different to the "traditional" arrangement which was for the multi-function steering module to be a LIN slave of the Steering wheel module.

Here's a picture showing the difference between the CAN set-up for the Golf mk7 (MQB) and previous non-MQB Golf :

Notes;
  • Notice the differences in the connections of "J453" and "E221".
  • The dotted line for J453 is the physical wiring route

In addition to this difference (if it applies to PQ46), the variation in module firmware accross the 2 x platforms must be a concern in the swap - IMO.

@m87a a Polo 6C steering wheel is in some cases PQ35 (1K8) and in other cases PQ26 (6C0). In no case however it's PQ25 (6R0) ;)

Thanks guys. I've decided I'm just gonna pass. Appreciate the help and concern. Other than a sore back we are all good.
