Hello,

I am trying to find out if for a 2017 Passat CC, the reverse camera controller 3C8907441 has component protection.

Someone I know has had this unit fail, and have found a replacement, but not sure if its a simple swap or if CP is an issue.

I do know about calibration, and that it might require a visit to the dealer.

Replacement unit is:
3C8907441
H15
Software 0040
Manufactured: 2016

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

So now I am trying to do a bench test on a module with a spare gateway I have, but are running into an issue. Can't seem to get communication established with the 6C: Back-up Cam.

I include the scan below, with a spare 55 Headlight Range module connected to ensure gateway is working.

55 Headling Range - Powertrain CANBus
6C: Back-up Cam = Infotainment CANBus

Gateway infotainment CANBus: pin 10 and 20

For 6C, the connections are as follows:
Pin 39, 40: CANBus
Pin 44: GND
Pin 43: Power

It seems that it will pickup the status of the 6C: Back-up Cam as per below, but it can't make an actual direct connection.

Not sure if this is further coding that I am missing, or other.

Any info would be helpful.

@TooLittleTime: OOOhhhh........ a test bench with a high-line reverse camera ? Very fancy indeed - even if it won't do much without a J794 module, I'm envious!!

I assume J772 has been correctly registered in the CAN Gateway installation list?
Maybe check CAN polarity on hex 6C connector (CAN high and CAN low pins correctly aligned with pins on hex19 module)?
Does your version of J772 need a wake-up signal - perhaps a CAN message from the ignition key mechanism, or a T15 signal?

The only comment I have is that we've never tried to build a bench test setup for a back-up camera. ;)

Thanks for the reply.

Answers are as follows:
"I assume J772 has been correctly registered in the CAN Gateway installation list?"
1) Yes gateway is correctly coded

"Maybe check CAN polarity on hex 6C connector (CAN high and CAN low pins correctly aligned with pins on hex19 module)?"
2) CAN Bus polarity has been verified. VCDS will show the module listed with maulfunctions in gateway list, but the second you try communcation or scan, it will say the module is not reachable.

"Does your version of J772 need a wake-up signal - perhaps a CAN message from the ignition key mechanism, or a T15 signal?"
3) You might be onto something here, as it might just need a specific wakeup CAN message to start responding. The strange thing with that is the current consumption is around 250mA, so that would almost make me think its wide awake. I will see if there is anyway I can test this in a vehicle. I know that for most modules you can do a bench test, so thought why not. Also heard that you need to code the gateway on PQ35/7N0 to offroad. All of this sort of being confirmed while trying this out.

Re J794 - I think you are referring to MQB. I am testing on PQ35.

It must be something simple, or perhaps a wake signal/wire directly from head unit.

Open to any other suggestions, and will see what I can do to try #3.
