I have 2013 tdi passat just got my vcds I want know how do you do a full scan save eveything I was reading that smartest thing to do 1st thanks

A full scan is accomplished using the Autoscan feature of VCDS. You can then save the scan.

Have you had a chance to look at the manual or at this video?

I know that your question was specifically about the auto-scan facility, but with @Bruce 's indulgence - you might want to look in the manual at what VCDS calls "Controller channel maps" (see here). It sounds very technical, but it's a really nifty way of creating a detailed database of the value of every setting in a control module - at the time that the map (colloquially called an "admap") was created. So if you create admaps of ALL modules in the car, before any changes are made - you get a complete database of the car's factory settings - how good is that?

And, assuming that a NAR 2013 tdi passat has the newer style UDS modules, with Ross-Tech's latest incarnation of admaps called "Raw-hex" - VCDS users now have an automated facility to restore modules to their previously saved state - it doesn't get any better than that!!

You may not be aware of the terms "Coding" (or, long-code) and "Adaptations" but in general most modules have these 2 x different programming mediums that diagnostic devices like VCDS can access. If you are unaware of these terms - here's a very amateur and definitely non-Ross Tech explanation that might shed early light on the words

It's easy to think of long-code as consisting of a bunch of simple software switches which can be either ON, or OFF. Although it's a bit of an over simplification, long code switches are generally related to different features that are available to cars on the manufacturing line; these switches are turned-ON/OFF depending on what options were ordered by the purchaser and installed in the car.

Separately, modules also have Adaptation channels. Again, it's an over-simplification, but these channels relate more to the operating parameters of the many module functions (i.e stuff like how bright the environment must be before the headlights auto switch-on). Adaptation channels can be a simple switch, or they can also contain "variables" - like a value in a range between one and one hundred. Modern VAG cars can have upward of a total of 5,000 adaptation channels in their CAN network depending on how many modules are fitted and some individual modules can have 2,000 adaptation channels!!

As you can see from your auto-scan, there's lots of useful information in the report (including the module's "Coding"). But, it doesn't have any data about the adaptation channels - because it's real focus is for diagnostics. Information about adaptation channels are found in admaps (which also include "Coding") and that's why they are so useful - because they record the detailed minutia of the module's set-up (IMO)

@stcspiderman: Hmm........ I'm not familiar with the American version of the MY13 Passat, but there certainly doesn't appear to be a mechanism for disabling DRLs on your screenshot. Again, I'm just joining-dots, but if it shares the attributes of the NAR versions of PQ25 platform cars, the fix could be a physical wiring change - rather than a VCDS tweak - see here. Perhaps one of your countrymen could comment?

I'm not going to do the search for you.. we are trying to teach you. If you do a search here in our forum or on other enthusiasts forums for your model year North American Passat, I think you will find @Don is correct - a wiring change is required to turn off the DRLs. I have not searched this - it is just a recollection of mine reading the forums for the past 16 years.

Note there is no tweak for the DRLs.

I have a 2015 S4...
I did Auto Scan > Clear Codes … Applications > Controller Channel Map, Tick Whole Vehicle (CAN Only), check Function 'Measuring Values' and 'Adaptations' -> I then Pre-Labeled thel File then did Raw Hex

It took about an hour to complete.

I then went into C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs and backed all those files up, and put them into a ZIP file on dropbox.

My intent is to create a full "stock" backup for Coding and Adaptations. Did this do the trick?
