Trouble using Key-USB on 2010 Sportwagen?

Hi, I've had a KEY-USB dongle since 2005, used many times on my old '03 ALH Jetta. Just bought a 2010 Jetta Sportwagen, can't seem to get AutoScan to work at all, it hangs while waiting to connect. I can get in to ENGINE measuring block directly but nothing else, ENGINE seems to be working fine. If I try other blocks directly I again get no connection, just hangs on the attempt.

For AUTOSCAN I put in the 7th and 8th digit of my VIN, AJ. I uploaded the most recent VCDS release, 20.12, I'm running it on a 64bit Windows 10 Lenovo laptop.

What am I doing wrong? I was told by a long time TDI guru my ancient interface cable would work fine.

hmm........ what happens if you select your particular chassis type from the drop-down arrow in the VCDS screenshot below? There are a number of suitable candidate chassis types in the VCDS list, but if I understand your information correctly - I think the option for your car might be AJ - VW Golf/Jetta VI NAR (2010 > 2014) - maybe?

Simple: You're using an interface that only supports communication via K-Lines on a car that requires a direct CAN bus connection for everything except the Engine (and possibly the Auto Trans if it has one).

Don - Lol, I obviously didn't communicate clearly, I actually *did* do that drop-down and select AJ, thanks for at least confirming I had the right idea!
