Hi all.

My first post here and a newbie to VW and VCDS. Been a ford man all my life and have experience with WDS and IDS but VCDS is a different beast altogether :eek:

Done a couple of tweaks to get the feel for it, (gauge sweep and auto-lock)


What I would really like to do if at all possible on the Polo 6C is fogs on with high beams.

I have seen a few videos on youtube of the Polo having this (but no help how to do it) I have also seen plenty of help for the Golfs having this with instructions but when I try and cross ref the addresses in adaptations some lines dont exist/different?


Can anyone help me how to do this. I would like fogs/high beam flash to pass and fogs on when high beam selected.

Yes, suggest the following:
to to 09
Security access - fill in 31347
Go to adaptations
Find the right set of channels for the fog lights, they are connected to T46b/40 and T46b/3. In short, the BCM pin will determine a grouping of light channels that control the light.
So we search for B40 and B3
There will be a long list of channels and what you need to do is add a new function
This is done by adding Function A/B/C/D/...
I'd suggest to edit function C and make it a High Beam or Fernlicht (don't know by heart what's written) to: ENG124874ENG114960Leuchte13NL RB3
Then you edit the dimming value to whatever you want (0 is off, 127 is full power) in ENG124874ENG114962Leuchte13NL RB3

Then repeat for ENG124873ENG115214Leuchte12NL LB40 and ENG124873ENG115216Leuchte12NL LB40

You could add function D to Headlight Flasher or Lichthupe. You already set the dimming value for CD (so function C and D) so you don't need to adjust this.

if you did it differently than I wrote, it's because I don't have a 6C0 car with me to be precise enough.

once you get the hang of the basic principle, it's not very hard to apply this trick to all other lights in your car.

  1. You might consider not using the suggested Nebellicht links/rechts (Fog light left/right) commands because these will already be registered on the Lichtfunktion A channels on both left and right side fog-light Leuchte-sets - albeit this duplication will be self correcting if you intend to also implement the "full beam" option
  2. The suggested setting for Dimmwert CD will be correct ONLY if the fog lights are LED lamps. I'm not sure how your particular vehicle was factory optioned, but if it has incandescent fog lamps, the correct setting is 100. The fact that 127 is a higher number than 100 doesn't mean that the incandescent setting gives lower illumination; the 2 x values are simply the maximum Pulse-Width-Modulation values for the respective lamp types (my suspicion is that the BCM uses digital control for LED lamps and analogue control for incandescent lamps). If you are in doubt as to which lamps are fitted to the car, check the Lasttyp channel value on either of the Leuchte-sets; if you don't see the term "LED" in the setting, the lamps will be incandescent. The setting in Dimmwert AB in either Leuchte-set will also confirm the lamp type; if it's 127, the lamps will be LED (else, the value will be 100 - meaning incandescent lamps)

My vehicle originally came with incandesent Headlamps and fog lamps (H8) but I recently replaced the headlamp bulbs (dip and full) and the fogs and DRLs bulbs for the LED type , So do I set these at 127 or 100?

I have not done any modifications to any adaptations to the lighting as I have only just got my VCDS unit, so everything is as it left the factory, and the replacement LED bulbs seem nice and bright with no flickering and no canbus errors on dash.

@lamster: hmm....... the approach is entirely yours to decide!!! But first you must understand that not all LEDs are created equal and this particularly applies to after-market lamps - despite every manufacturer's claim that their LEDs are OEM.

As I mentioned in my response above and notwithstanding the quasi- MQB nature of the Polo 6C, the BCM in you car has the capabilities of controlling its 35 x exterior lights differently for LED and incandescent lamp types. I've no specific information from VAG, but the different operation is fundamental and it includes stuff like different PWM frequency and different forms of dimming control (i.e. digital vs analogue - I think).

Now, I hope that you would agree that it's reasonable to assume that VAG would not include such an option in their BCM s, if it didn't result in a finite advantage for the separate OEM lamp types. And for OEM fittings, VAG go to the trouble of factory coding these Leuchte -sets differently according to the lamp type.

After-market LED lamps are an entirely different kettle-of-fish because their design is individualized and in most instances their compatibility with the power-supply characteristics of the Leuchte-sets is unknown. This means that when dealing with after-market LEDs, it's largely a matter of trial-and-error!

In your case, your Polo was factory coded to operate incandescent lamps and the BCM still believes that this light-type is plugged into the lamp-sockets - despite the fact that they are actually LEDs.

Are the LEDs operating efficiently with this subterfuge? I don't know because the lamps are after-market, but probably not. Does it matter? Probably not because the BCM 's misunderstanding isn't causing errors.

So - the bottom line is that you have 2 x options:
  1. You can continue to deceive the BCM and leave the Leuchte-set values as factory set - in which case the appropriate dimmwert setting is 100.
  2. You can opt to "fess-up" and admit your deceit to the BCM and as penance for your sin, you will need to re-jig the Leuchte-set values for true LED operation - in which case the appropriate dimmwert setting is 127.
If you choose option 2 - please post-up the complete Leuchte-set values (meaning all 19 x adaptation channels) for one of the fog-lights.

Thanks to both of you, It was a bit of a learning curve as VCDS is a new thing to me, Give me fords WDS/IDS and I pretty much know that inside out.


So after a bit of fiddling about and getting used to it a bit more I finally got both fields I wanted to work, I set the dimming function to 100 to see what it was like and they seem to be ok, no error codes either.
