Hello,

I have a very strange problem with a Polo 6R. The 44 Steering Assist was not reachable. I have tried 3 different Steering Pumps. All have same problems. I have tried these thing:
- Other 09 Central Electronics
- Other slip ring
- Canbus wiring straight to BCM
- Ignition supply straight to fuse box
- Ground new wire
- Constant supply new wire

All result in the same problem. No communication with the steering assist. But it is a strange no communication, but i can enter it and see the faultcode. But I see no part no hw no nothing.
Below the autoscan:

Is it possible the terminal 15 is by CAN wake and not direct being a virtual terminal 15 from BCM?

What's WD reveal?

Look for a very small damaged all black wire to BCM from 0x44?

I will look for this. But do you mean terminal 15 wire from bcm or from 44?

@vastechnics: very excellent question indeed - to which th answer is "oddly". Here's the CAN network arrangement for this most peculiar car (from the SSP):

BKgoKh4.png

So- at least according to the SSP, G85 seems to be a fully fledged member of the CAN bus with the same standing as J500 (hex44 module). As to why it's disappeared from your scan report and taken-down J500 in sympathy - I don't know. Perhaps it's designed to operate that way - read the EDITs below-maybe?

Don

EDIT: and this from the repair manual:
  • Vehicles with ESP are additionally equipped with a steering angle sensor -G85- . It is fitted in a housing together with the slip ring and coil connector.
So, if I'm reading the note correctly G85 is ONLY fitted with ESP - ??

And this also from the repair manual:
  • After the battery has been connected and ignition is switched on, the ESP and TCS warning lamp - K155- will light up permanently The warning lamp will go out automatically when the vehicle is driven at 15 to 20 km/h in a straight line. This has the effect of reactivating the steering angle sender - G85-
Was the battery disconnected - maybe clearing the DTC is as simple as driving @> 15 km/h?

I don't understand where the G85 is located as it is not by canbus behind steering wheel.

I have tried coding 0x04 but then gateway gives fault no communication and in gateway list says also not reachable

Since the car has no ESP, why do you think it should have a steering angle sensor? What function would it serve?

experienced this quite a few times myself. thought it was just my frankencar playing up though.

this car in particular has no G85 since it has no ESP or static cornering lights.

Ok lets say it doesnt has G85 ok leave that a side. Then I dont understand why the 0x44 can not be reached and still saying no comm with G85. So that confuses me a bit

i have tried 3 different pumps all same. I can not imagine that 3 are broken.

I'm tempted to call it a VCDS bug since I'm experiencing the same things when connecting to a Polo 6R. But I'm not able to verify since my own car has a 6C1 steering rack (electromechanical) rather than the 6R0 electrohydraulic pump.

Hello iichel,

i can confirm that it has to do with VCDS. Have now got maybe 5-6 cars display same. No coding available. So i think but since update.
