Hypothetical 2x2 adapter question

Note: This is purely a hypothetical question, I have NOT performed this stunt with my VCDS, but wondering, as I own both the good (Rosstech 2x2) and not so good 2x2s...

What would happen if (using a sloppy, aftermarket 2x2 adapter in poor lighting), the white and black connectors are reversed?
I gather that K1 will then have a hard +12v and L-line will be connected to ground. The plug that is supposed to get +12v will get the K-Line signal, and the negative will get the L-Line signal.
Would there be any immediate damage, or would the fact that the unit is not properly powered prevent damage?

A hard +12V or GND should not damage the K-line transceivers in the interface.

With poor quality 2x2 adapters, my biggest worry would be plugging in the black one upside-down. This would reverse +12V and Ground and then I'd worry about immediate damage.
