@stefan147: Hi. I'm guessing but IMO, it would be very surprising if it was possible to select just parts from a standard VC screen to substitute into another VC screen version. At best, I suspect that you will need to accept the entire VC screen arrangement from a different, standard version (if it's possible at all).

Again, I'm guessing of course - but perhaps a possible option might be to change the software switches for the Vehicle variant in the upper nibble of Byte 2 on the hex17 module. My logic assumes that it's these Bit-strings that determine the standard VC screen arrangement for various models.

So, if you know the hex value of Byte 2, Bits 3-7 from the VC screen that you want, you might try using this setting on your hex17 module - perhaps? I note that Byte 2, Bits 3-7 on your car has the value hex28 - which means Vehicle variant, derivative 6.

Once more, my hypothesis is nothing more than the mental musings of an interested (and intrigued) forum member -it's total supposition really!!

Thank you Don. We got nothing to lose so I will give it a go. The thing with Vehicle Variant though is that it may change the model displayed or the speedo/tach numbering. Am I wrong?

The weird thing is that I have seen pictures of the display I want on many different models from 1.6tdi to Cupra but never with a full scan to help me copy it.

Likely not!!!
But by fact of sheer logic - if:
The weird thing is that I have seen pictures of the display I want on many different models from 1.6tdi to Cupra
is true (and if my hypothesis is also correct) - there should be a version of "Vehicle variant, derivative" that should obviate your fears -I think, maybe?

@stefan147 Did you manage to finish your TPMS retrofit?

As a matter of fact I did. I only tried 5Q0907273B antenna with 5Q0907275B sensors. Pretty straightforward installation and coding (the actual module does not support coding at all). Here are some photos:

Coding
  • ABS: Byte 27, Bit 4-5-6 deactivate
  • CAN: Code TPMS
  • Instruments:
    • Byte 4, Bit 0 deactivate
    • Byte 3, Bit 7 activate
    • Byte 11, Bit 2 activate
  • Info Elect:
    • Vehicle function list BAP-tire pressure system_0x07_msg bus --> Databus extended

Try this :
Code:
04AC29083B800008010076001001000080000000

Byte 9 bit 3 unchecked. Display compass position bottom instead of top

Also there's tube variant adaptation channel in the instrument cluster, changing that also changes some of the display elements.
@downtime: mine is a wild guess, but I wonder if the instrument cluster layout might be car model specific on these AID dashboards?

If so, perhaps Byte 2, Bit 3-7 might be a possibility? These software switches set "Vehicle variant, derivative" - problem is that there are lots of options!

However, as currently set, the value of Byte 2 on OP's hex 17 module is hex29, which means that Bits 3-7 have the value hex28, which according to the "yellow" long-code helper screen means that Vehicle variant, derivative_6 is selected. Maybe try different options around derivative_6 as an experiment- perhaps?
