ABS Bleed - Partial?

Hi there, I've just completed an ABS bleed on a MK4 Golf. It all went fine, but then the final screen started "Partial" in the first box and "Venting Ended" in the next, adjacent box.

Does this mean the operation was only partially successful, or is the wording just referring to the fact that it's only a partial bleed and that you need to continue to manually bleed the brakes?

Hi and welcome.

There were at least three different generations of ABS used in Mk.4 Golfs. Please please post an Auto-Scan so people can see which one yours has.

OK, so a 2002 with an MK60, ASR only, no ESP.

It should not be necessary to bleed this using a scan tool unless the master cylinder has somehow run dry (or been replaced). There's generally no harm in doing it, but most of the bleeding is accomplished using conventional means, where a pressure or vacuum bleeding system is employed.

If it were mine and I got to the point where clean fluid was coming from all four bleed valves, and the pedal feel was good, I would leave it alone.

Many thanks, yes the master and ABS were dry and so needed the ABS bleed which went fine.

I just wanted to know what the VCDS meant by the word "Partial" as I thought it might be important? Does it mean it somehow deemed the procedure to only have been partially successful, or is it referring to the fact that the ABS bleed is only a partial bleed of the system (as it only bleeds through the front wheels and not the clutch/master cylinder and rear bleed nipples)?

I don't think that text comes from VCDS. The text you see when doing an ABS bleed Basic Settings on those old module comes directly from the module.
