Caddy DPF Issue

We have a caddy that the DPF seems to be regenerating every couple of days, its used for short journeys but we've only had it for about 2 weeks as an approved VW used so its under dealer warranty

My suspicion is there is either a faulty sensor or the DPF is very clogged, I've run a scan along with the MVB's from the DPF can anyone shed any light as the milege since regen seems greater than the mileage on the van?

I can't see anything obvious bad there.

As for: kilometers since last regeneration 132439 m

Despite the name being in kilometers, it's actually in meters so 132km since last regen :)

Thanks for the reoly - the plot thickens a little

so based on your info I kept an eye on what the van was doing and going out this morning it started a regen cycle just as i got home so I've read the data as in the scan below, from what I can see its done just 113 miles since the last regen and the soot quantity seems pretty high given the interval. If the thing is going to regen every 3 days to my mind something is off and I'm wondering if the filter is blocked

I'm just looking for a bit of data before I go to VW and they try and tell me nothing is wrong

Just really trying to gauge what other peoples opinions are

Whether I would take that to mean something is off would depends on how it is driven/used, and whether the regens have a chance to complete. If one starts just as you got home, it seems unlikely that it was able to complete.

If it were mine, I would take this thing out on the motorway for an hour or two and run it has fast/hard as you dare and then have another look.

Thanks Uwe, the issue I have is that the van had done a motorway run the day before and on the last regen, which was the one before that I made sure it finished. My wife had been complaining that it kept doing a regen every couple of days

our old van which had the ea189 with the same use was doing a regen every couple of weeks. Whilst I realise it’s a completely different engine we’ve gone literally from 2 weeks to 2 days. my gut feeling is that it’s not clearing fully when doing the regen and I’m trying to figure out why and if there is any way to figure it out

This morning I took it and and the regen restarted and I drove it until it finished, the regen took i guess about 10-15 minutes, here is tha data which I can see the soot mass has gone down but I dont understand the calculated soot mass at -7.2g ?
Can someone with more knowledge than me tell me if this looks right given its only done 120 miles between regens

Looks normal to me. If you would keep eye on "IDE00434 Particle filter: soot mass calculated"
would see that regen is initiated at approx. 25 grams and it stops when it reaches approx. 6 grams.

Anyways, the actual threshold values seem to be specific to engine type. If you keep monitoring them will see the pattern very soon. Not sure what the difference between values soot calculated/measured - they seem to go hand in hand with an offset.

I'd say 120 miles is just fine if doing short journeys. For T6 Transporter I get 150 miles by doing 20 mile journeys at 40-50 mph.

Could you please get full set of measurement block map values of your engine - that might give us more insight.
How-to:
VCDS: Applications --> Controller Channel Map --> Single Controller Address = 01, Tick Measuring values, CSV file
The resulting file (blockmap-01-...CSV) will be in folder C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs
Just copy/paste same way as autoscan (within CODE brackets)

Thanks that’s really helpful, it Just worries me that it’s generating that amount of soot in such a short space of time, maybe the filters are so much better that they trap that amount of soot. whilst I understand the whole 25g is the level at which a regen is triggered I couldn’t find anything where VW a publish what the parameters “should” be for the EA288 like they did with the EA189. 120 mile regens must be worse for the environment than the particulates. I’m starting to wonder if I should have bought a petrol...

For anyone that doesn't do regular longish drives without much starting & stopping then a diesel with DPF isn't going to be the best choice IMHO.

I completely agree, but I’ve had 7 of these vans, some with and some without DPF a and never had an issue before, I have a golf GTD a with the same EA288 base engine and DPF and none have ever behaved like this van does. I’ll get the data as VWT6 has suggested and see if that tells me anything. I nearly bought a petrol one but the only ones I could find had starship mileages. Starting to wish I had....
