Its my first post on here so if i make a mess of it please excuse me.
I've got an 2007 Audi a3 with the 1.9 PD BXE engine.
Its been having long crank issues for a couple of weeks now so I've decided this weekend to have a look at it.
I Have a fault code stored P3007 Cam Position Sensor G40 No Signal - Intermittent.
First of all i have checked on advanced measuring blocks on cam speed and torsion value and found the sensor to drop out.
The next step of diagnosis i removed the connector for the cam sensor and checked the terminals for any corrosion etc.
Ive then checked voltage at my wiring and found Pin 1 - 5v Pin 2 - 5v and Pin 3 - 0v (Ground)?
I know that the wiring looms can rub through on the front of the engine so ive pulled the trunking off and inspected the loom but couldn't find any faults.
I've then removed the ECU and checked resistance through the wiring back to the cam sensor -
Pins 27 - 28 - 12 on the ecu to Pins 1 - 2 - 3 of the Cam sensor to find 0.01Ohms.
Happy with my figures i have then gone ahead and replaced the cam sensor.
After replacing the cam sensor i found a different fault to appear being P0341 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal
When checking on advanced measuring blocks i have the correct cam speed but on torsion value to sit 0.0kw
I've tried clearing the fault code but it comes straight back.
I've now checked the engine timing and found to be perfect.
I'm starting to think the new cam sensor purchased is at fault. This is also a Lucas cam sensor. Have i been stupid here and should have just gone genuine?
