Does anyone have any experience replacing the light/rain sensor mounted inside the base of the rear-view mirror? I'm able to remove the mirror but the "how-to" for replacing the sensor isn't exactly obvious.

Hello,

The Official Factory Repair manuals detail the removal and installation of the G397- Rain/Light Recognition Sensor with images and all the information one needs. :)

There are three parts to the G397:
- Retaining plate
- Rain/light recognition sensor -G397
- Retaining clip

The repair information says to disconnect the electrical connector, press the clip outward (with small screwdriver) and remove the clip and remove the G397.

Also if you are reusing the same G397, then you will need to replace the Gel film (self adhesive [4E0-955-609]) on the sensor.

Hope this helps,

drpeter

So it would seem the rain / light sensor is left attached to the windshield after removing the mirror. I have the hard-cover Bentley Service Manual but it doesn't address actually removing/replacing the sensor. Any chance you have a reference material for that?
