Son's 2000 golf MK4 immobilizer activated

It has been raining non stop since Sunday which has put a halt on this project. I have done some of the tests but am not going to post the results just yet. I have been in negotiations with an ASE certified mechanic that I have worked with in the past and will defer to him for the final results of the tests. I will post the results as he reports them to me along with ( hopefully ) a fix / next step.

I'd much rather have the rain than over 2 feet of snow right now!
Just let me know if you need a controller, I'd really like to know what the cause of this is, not just a result.

I 'll provide all the information that is gathered in the diagnosis and if you would like some bit here or there I'll try my best to provide that as well. As for the snow, that is on the way. Our snow season is just starting and it is cold enough , It was 30 degrees coming home from work this morning. I know it's much worse in other parts of the country but I don't live there so I don't care.
