Hi folks,
Got a few errors I need help with sorting before I can start the fun stuff.
Background:
Van was parked up for a few weeks, on driving after, coil light comes on then engine management light, then limp mode, combined with some strange engine off, ignition on behavior - twitching rev gauge, rough flashing battery light and what I think is top of engine relay clicking and possible ABS pump switching on and off.

VW garage have had the vehicle and swapped out the engine speed sensor after this fault first appeared - they had the vehicle and the fault condition never actually re-appeared for them... hence why I'm now here.

As I was doing an Autoscan started off ok, then the faults started happening so I took a number of scans as things "deteriorated".

This is all a little new to me, I'm used to less tech approach of Land Rover Defenders, but keen to learn.

Started vehicle - started scan, then coil light came on.

2013 T5 Transporter 180 bi-turbo tdi. Senor reference fault?

Hi Guys I have This Vw transporter 2013 bi-turbo 180 tdi with a Sensor reference fault, it also displays in the instrument cluster change air filter which ive never seen before. Can anyone help as I'm not sure what sensor/sensors to check or replace?? Thanks in advance...

And they got back in touch to say that the fault they found and fixed was a broken Boost pressure sensor , which does tie in with the 3rd Autoscan down.

Due to the fault the van hasn't been used much lately, I'll get the battery put on a maintenance charge.
At the point of recording the scan i had stopped and restarted the vehicle a few times.

I'm skeptical that those voltages are low enough to cause the Reference Voltage faults in @Maverik 's scans. Sensor Reference Voltage is generally 5V....

I think HMC's comment was more addressed to text description in OP's first post (flickering dash warning lights etc.), not to 4124/P0651 DTC.
OP really need WD and check all 5V supply circuits in engine wiring loom step by step.
BTW who knows the definition of P0651-00 open circuit/prerequisites for setting it? I have tested a lot of ECU's on table with just power and data connected (all sensor and actuator inputs/outputs open) and never seen such DTC set. Internal fault of 5V converter inside ECU maybe?

Thanks for the input so far, feeling my way a little, working on getting some documentation. Also had a good play around with VCDS today. Also got a little more info. So when the rev meter does its thing with the flashing battery light, the motor I can hear is the front left headlight beam adjuster motor. I went and cancelled all the DTC's from previous and went for a drive, all normal, until I arrived back home when I got this pop up, strangely this was by its self no sign of the previous P0651 DTC - I've got some breakout leads on the way so I can do some voltage checking - also ordered a new pressure sender, get that ruled out.
Not knowing much about the wiring in this thing, my gut is telling me not to rule out a coincidental mutually exclusive double fault.

Can I swap this like for like or do I need to go in and, (sorry I don't know what the correct terminology is) update anything in the engine controller?

MAP/IAT is the same G31, also called Boost pressure sensor, it has a built-in IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor, too.
If You are not familiar with reading WD and using DVOM, probably easiest way is to replace it. If problem persists, You have to learn things above or ask some car electrician for help.

So I've replaced G31, took some pin voltages with the new and old sender as per below - the only thing that stood out on the old sender was a voltage drop on Pin 2 with ignition off compared to the new sender.

Terminal testing old sender (Engine on, Engine off) 0 281 006 060 140324T005316C
Pin 1 = 0v, 0v
Pin 2 = 2.4v, 1.5v
Pin 3 = 5v, 5v
Pin 4 = 1.1v, 1.1v

Pin 1 = 0v, 0v
Pin 2 = 2.7v, 2.6v
Pin 3 = 5v, 5v

Can anyone advise where I need to look to know what to expect with the pin outs? I've got a copy of Elsawin,but not been able to find anything in there.

So I swapped out G31 sender, I also removed the battery and had a good inspect of the main fuse boxes and pulled the ECU out - other than a rather odd metallic smell that I got when I first opened up the main box everything looked as it should I've been using the van and she's not thrown any more codes at me.

Not entirely convinced thats solved the problem as I can't understand how that would cause the headlight level motor to flick on and off with the battery light and speedo.

I've been reading up on overheating issues of the ECU as well as I believe this generation of van's had a fair few wiring chafing problems. Just waiting and seeing now for any faults to re-appear.

So just to close this out a little. I've been using the van regularly since last October and done a good few miles, its not missed a beat.

One thing a did after the last post was to unplug the front right headlight (as you look from the front) and give the plug a a good clean with contact cleaner I've not had any repeats of the intermittent fault of the motor running with getting strange gauge activity.
