The new per-door KESSY slaves are obvious enough. I could speculate on some likely reasons they might now exist, but speculation is all it would be. I wish there were some SSPs out for this car.

813F (unknown) might be the instrument cluster. 17 is missing in the scan, FAHRERDISPLAY = Driver Display, ASAM ID is EV_DashBoardLGMEB. Might also be the HUD. Might be both.

8123, 8124, 8125 (the app servers) are general-purpose compute being used for random this-and-that functions:

8107 (antenna) is probably something along these lines, vendor and model unconfirmed by me, but it would be consistent:

Trx = transceiver, MLGE = no idea. With all the new OTA stuff, the car is going to have single 4G/5G data uplink and GPS antenna serving everything in the rest of the car, it's either in this or in the Telematics module, I'm betting this new antenna module. If true, I'm kind of surprised Telematics is still a freestanding module, seems perfect to collapse into your general purpose compute box for zero mass and zero dollars. Maybe that's one of their reported software challenges.

Again, hmmmm.........the real genesis for my question stems from my confusion regarding VAG's objective with the entire SFD scheme - which the VW Group asserts is necessary because of their "product analysis" (whatever that means) and because "SA no longer conform with state-of-the-art" (whatever that means)!

I'm aware that SFD is to be introduced in 2020 beginning with the the Golf mk8 (MQB37W) - which has been confirmed by the recent posting of a mk8 autoscan in the reference threard. However, VAG also say that " there will be a cross-brand introduction of the SFD procedure in order to provide Vehicle Diagnostic" Hence my question about the E1-VWE3 platform vehicle

I've no doubt that eventually this car will be locked-up via the protocol - It just wasn't clear to me whether this would happen so soon with this model car.

A little birdie sent me some data on a loaded ID.3.

SFD confirmed in 01, 03, 09, 15, 23, 5F, 75, 8107, 8123, 8124, 8125, 813F. So we've got that going for us, which sucks.

Several modules now appear to talk to each other using IPv6 over Automotive Ethernet, 100Mbit with specialsauce over single twisted pair, which is cool. It looks kind of like that's the new FlexRay or MOST (both effectively dead standards) connecting the important high-bandwith realtime stuff and leaving the less important stuff on CAN, just like MLB/MLBevo. However, those same modules also show extensive signs of implementing AUTOSAR SecOC, which means all man-in-the-middle fun and games are officially over before they start, same for adding new/retrofit modules. We can read but we can't alter or add.

It'll stay that way until someone comes up with an effective break for AES-128 (in which case Automotive Ethernet will not be the world's foremost concern) or VWAG screws up key management somehow, which could definitely happen. The spec appears to make allowances for some bend-but-don't-break key compromise scenarios, like the push and pull that's happened with BluRay after everyone learned from the DVD scheme being broken wide open.

Sigh ... other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Guess what address isn't reporting any signs of SFD or CP or FEC or Ethernet/SecOC? 44-Steering Assist. The stupid thing even says it's taken from MQB in the ASAM ID. So I'll bet quite a lot that me (with openpilot) or another attacker with physical access, can turn the steering wheel through HCA_01 or similar CAN messaging just like on MQB or PQ today.

FYI, we're gonna be moving 813F back to address 17. A (very) new bus address came up for that instrument like controller, and I wasn't sure if it was going to be in addition to 17, or an alternate address for it. So it was made 813F as a placeholder until we could see some scans telling us whether it overlaps with the old addresses for 17 (in which case it would have been an additional controller), or replaces it. Once we've synced the codeblock and VCDS on that, we'll publish a beta where 17 is back for the ID3.

hmm.......... I know that SFD is brand new stuff and that there is lots to learn about how this protocol operates - but there appears to be an apparent difference of opinion between your observations and those of @jifejur here (albeit, I suspect that the difference in the reported scope of SFD application across modules might be one of definition of terms)!

That thread was primarily about Mk.8 cars, whereas this thread is about ID.3 cars. They are very different animals, and I'd fully expect the ID.3 to be more "advanced" in terms of its use of this new, uhm, shtuff.

Currently I think we can compare it to a VCDS with VIN limitation, actions that take a VIN on VCDS is like a car with SFD.
You can make Autoscan, Controller maps, delete error codes..

I have no physical access to the car to try things, but I was given blockmaps and adpmaps. I infer SFD support for each address that shows the following in their blockmaps:

MAS18157-MAS18158	SFD activated status-Role of vehicle diagnostic to be protected	No activation active
MAS18157-MAS18161	SFD activated status-Status of vehicle diagnostic to be protected	SFD individualization feature set
MAS18157-MAS18164	SFD activated status-Duration of vehicle diagnostic to be protected	No activation active

Mapping without SFD authorization seems perfectly possible, since I do have maps from VCDS. They were provided to me with a condition that I don't distribute them further, as they weren't the owner of the mapped vehicle. However, if you were to reach out privately to someone in this very thread who has clearly been hands-on with an ID.3, it's very possible you might find a little birdie to negotiate with.
