Can you disable the "press clutch to start" funtion, 2014 A4

Hi, while test driving my car after my last tweak, I thought of another tweak I would like to do. Can the "press clutch to start" function be turned off? It is hard on the crankshaft trust bearings to dry start with the full pressure of the clutch applied.

I know it is a safety feature, but I have been driving manual transmission cars for 36 years and I am use to starting a manual car in neutral without pressing the clutch. I have this defeated in all six of my other manual trans cars. It is one of the first things I do when I buy a car.

I am not sure that is possible. VW/Audi cars with manual transmissions have had that "feature" for just about as long as I can remember. In the old days, you could cheat by bypassing the clutch switch, but I would suppose doing that would have other consequences on your car (such as making the cruise control not work).

Yeah, I bypassed the switch on my other three Audis, but they are 2005 S4's and a 2002 A4. If I remember correctly, there are two different switchs on them (same with my mustangs) one kills the cruise and the other is the starter interupt. I'll have to look under the dash and see how this new model is set up. This car doesn't kill the cruise if I push the clutch pedal down to shift. It resumes automaticly when I down/up shift, so I figured there is something in the computer somewhere.

By the way, most manuals sold in the good old USA have had this saftey switch since sometime in the 70's, but I remember when I lived in Germany 2003-2006 the manuals cars I rented (Peugeot 206, VW beetle) didn't have this switch. I joked with my wife and said "the Germans must be smarter than us". She said "no, they probably don't have as many lawyers" LOL.

Yep. I suspect it's required by some sort of regulation in the US, but not in Europe. I don't know whether Germans are smarter, but they do (or at least used to) take their driving far more seriously. New driver training is quite rigorous, and ze rulez of ze road, zey must be followed, ja?

Try a search for "push clutch to start bypass harness" on web & Ebay it works on VW and Audi models but I do not recall if it covers an A4 '14. CC & over rev functions are still intact.

Do you have to push the clutch to start MK5 platform cars in the USA?

Euro ones certainly don't... though I did think about trying to enable it in my Touran... Because my Wifes Touran is auto and when you're inside, it feels like the same car other than the transmission and 100 extra horse powders.

Yes. This goes all the way back to at least the Mk.3. I don't remember whether you had to on the Mk.1 or Mk.2, but it was definitely necessary on my Mk.3.

Enable or disable "press clutch to start" message is stored in Instrument cluster EEPROM.
Depending on whether it is a manual transmission or an automatic transmission, the manufacturer has loaded different data into the EEPROM.
It is better to leave it untouched in case you ever sell a car
