Hi,
I have just picked up a 2016 T6. The van has been parked up for several months and the battery was completely dead. It jump starts first time, but even after leaving the engine run, the engine dies when jump cables removed. I put a multi-meter on the battery and confirmed there was only 11.6V when engine running, so it is not charging.

I then replaced the battery with a new one, it starts and runs fine, but again it is still not charging.

When I go in to the central electrics there is a fault saying charging circuit module has no signal?

Is there a possibility there is something simple such a fuse blown?

Full code below is from before I replaced the battery with a new one, so many of the faults were down to the battery problem. It is the charging fault I'm trying to diagnose.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I know thats not unheard of, but the van is quite new and only 20K miles on the clock, so I'm thinking unlikely its the alternator, more likely wiring or a module etc??

Are you going too trace the LIN current track & with load light to alternator and BCM/Gateway/BDM isolated directly & as per WD or overlay to test?

Data BUS too?

Scan is not complete.......

Yes, it is possible that the LIN wire is somehow disconnected (corrosion, broken wire). Did you have a look at the fuse for the alternator?
Or, als Jack is suggesting, trace the LIN connection.

IIRC, an 'uncontrolled' LIN generator will still give out decent voltages.
IIRC2, a broken LIN alternator fuse will not result in an 'unreachable' error for the battery regulator.
That's why I'm suspecting the alternator itself instead of the wiring.

I would investigate further the possiility there is a damaged cable, but i'm currently in London and have to get the van back to Wales! Was hoping there may be some things I can try at the side of the road.

Does anyone know if the charging module is affected by any fuses perhaps?

Right ok. I've only ever had T5's before so haven't located the alternator fuse yet. (wasn't sure if there was one) Is this located underneath the battery as in the older T5's?

It should be a rather thick black cable near the battery fuse compartment.

A bit more info.

I have just discovered that the instrument cluster has been removed at some point, and badly refitted. This van was bought through an insurance company so there is every chance it was Stolen / recovered.

Is there anything in or behind the instrument cluster that could affect the charging circuit? I'm guessing the thieves needed access to the instrument cluster in order to steal the van?

I don't think so. The battery regulator is integrated into the BCM and from there there is a wire directly to the LIN generator.

All the Big Fuses are in the Fuse box under the Battery.
You need to get the Battery Holder out, than you can open the big plastic box.
There are a lot Fuses and one for the Alternator, it is a 225A Fuse in Position SA1.
You can look there, but it looks more like the Alternator is missing, not Connected or defect.

Since the Battery Regulator inside BCM is only complaining about no connection to generator, we can rule out LIN Bus error/defect in BCM, because on the same LIN Bus the Battery Shunt is connected and that one looks like it is working.

I would assume that when LIN Bus cable to Generator is only missing, that Generator will work in "Safe Emergency" Mode bringing 13.8V allways.
But since you get no Voltage @all i would assume the Generator is defect ...
