Hi! First post. Super excited to use my new hex net for my recently acquired car. Just getting back into VW’s from 15 years ago but never did the diagnostics but looking forward to it. My question is this: I bought a 2005 tdi golf, but the BEW engine was replaced with an ALH engine from an approximately 2000 Jetta tdi by the previous owner. Do I use the VIN from the golf or do I need to use a “fake” vin to represent an older car?

Thanks I’m advance!

Hi and welcome.

You don't need to enter a VIN. All you need to run an Auto-Scan are the 7th & 8th digits of the VIN, which identify the chassis, and these will be the same between a 2000 and a 2005, since both are Mk.4 chassis cars. Those will be either "1J" or "9M".

VCDS should have no trouble figuring out out that the engine is an ALH rather than a BEW.

Wow fast response! Thanks!
I’m wanting to do outputs as I have a low boost issue that’s not tripping a cel. Didn’t know if the VIN made much of a difference- appears not so I’ll use the vin of my car. Thanks again!!
