Could be, but i think thats more a speaker that plays a certain engine sound.

Im a bit late with pictures, suddenly found myself on the road again the last few days.

I did modify the arteon bracket, its sorta fitted to the small narrow bracket that sits vertically between windscreen and engine space, If i get it to work, ill bolt it to that bracket with some aluminum spacers so it will still be able to pass on virbrations, but for now its bolted through some of the holes that are already in the bracket below the windscreen.

Allright here goes, don't mind the white plastic fasteners, i didnt have my wiring tape with me at the time, theyre gone now.

If i get it to function, ill drill some holes in the strut that its now fixed to and bolt it down properly, but i didn't want to make any irreversible changes until it works. The Arteon bracket was modified, i ground off the extruding part.

Thank you for the pictures. I think it looks really good and that position was exactly the same spot where I thought I would fix it IF it works. I'm still waiting for the 4 pin module connector and a new module because the breaker sent me a Golf part instead of Arteon. I now then have two to play with.

Just so you know, i tried the new module (which came with sw 0003), but same error.

According to someone that creates another tool theyre working on a dataset, so im waiting for that.

Hey that sounds great. Keep us posted, I would be very interested about that dataset as well.

Any updates on this one? I got my Arteon module few days ago but have not had time to wire it yet :)

Still waiting for updates @MasterTommy.

My plan is to wire the system on the weekend just to try if it works. Most likely the same issue as what you are encountering but at least I'll have some fun :D

I had this same issue when fitting an A9 module from an SQ7 4M into a Q7 4M. It connects but get "incorrect engine type" so obviously doesnt work

Never got it fixed.

Above will work. My friend fitted kit from Kufatec into Tiguan. Now he have V8 engine sound outside lol

I don't want that :D Too obvious. Well maybe I just have to make the sounds myself :)

Ok finally got around to test this on my car. Same thing as what MasterTommy is experiencing. Incorrect vehicle type.

I tried Arteon module and a Golf one. Both give the same error.

what was the end of this story, if any? I have a friend who want to try the retrofit on Audi A3, and I suspect the same outcome.

I think Audi should be fine. E-tron for example has sound generator if I'm not mistaken.

On Tiguan the engine type is not the issue, seems that there is non-existent dataset for vehicle type of Tiguan. The borne gives 2 different errors. Either incorrect engine type or incorrect vehicle type.

And I would be very interested to hear the outcome, was the control module hackable?

@downtime already knows but I was able to try that solution in my car, NAR '15 Golf TDI (CRUA) and I no longer have any errors in the module. The output test also works. I have not been for a drive yet to verify it will work. My car did not originally come with driving modes, although I have them now. Internal engine sound does not show in my Individual profile as adjustable or in the information section of any my other profiles. But thanks to other work by the same parties it should be possible to remedy that as well.

As a brief history, I originally picked up a module from an NAR GTI... this gave me a fault. I then picked up a module removed from an EU GTD (confirmed the donor VIN with the seller)... this also gave me a fault. I don't recall which module gave me which fault but one of them was incorrect vehicle type, the other was incorrect engine type... no dice either way.

Thought i'd share an update.

Found this on the interweb, apparently there are enough people trying this for someone to have put in some effort, with results.

I flashed the module with an unlocked firmware version of a golf GTD (because there is no original flashfile or unlocked one for the arteon BiTDI version i have) and that solved the module complaining. It no longer throws codes, and it measuring values show all is well and active. Output test gives me the weird UFO sound.

Except for the fact that the gateway is not sending the active driving profile status to the soundaktor. Which means that it still doesnt work because it stays in an idle state.

This means i now need to find someone who is has ODIS and is willing and able to pull and send me a gateway dataset for my specific VIN. I needed that anyway since i wanted to add the soundaktor setting option to the individual driving profile setting list.

Will update if i ever get that sorted.

On that same wiki you linked, if you download any of the files that also include "noFPA" It will work even without support from your driving profile data set. These were modified by the creator of that project for cars that don't even have driving modes, but that is effectively what this soundaktor in your car sees.

I think those downloads have been set to default to Sport mode. So you can try a few until you find a firmware that has a sport mode that you won't mind hearing all the time, at least until you get the gateway data set issue sorted.

I ran the diesel appropriate firmware for a while but it's pretty boring. I've switched to running TTRS firmware and it's awesome, haha. I've also modified my driving profile data set, as @MasterTommy intends to, and since I'm typically in custom I have the soundaktor in Normal.

Yeah i spotted the driving profiles without FPA, might give it a go indeed :)

How did you get a gateway dataset if i may ask?

On the MQB-FPA GitHub there are several stock data sets, though I don't think I've seen one for your car. I retrofitted driving modes so I just chose a stock data set that was closest to my car and modified it to my preference. I think the one I used was for GTI with DSG, so I had to remove the front differential lock and transmission related stuff. As you are aware there's no way to pull the data set from your current gateway, so you'll have to do the ODIS thing unless you want to go full custom.

The GitHub...

And my profile, this post and the following...

And since that time done a little more, DCC slider...
