2010 VW Golf Mk6 1.6 TDI No starter when turned to Ign position3

Hi

I have an issue with a Golf Mk6 1.6 Tdi
Dash is lit up like a Christmas Tree and when key is turn to position 3 nothing
I can hear the fuel pump start but the starter doesnt engage
The car needed a ECU swap but the complete set up was removed from donor vehicle (ECU, BCM, Ignition barrel and key) Unfortunately I was stung whilst buying at auction and am now trying to just get it started.

I guess I would start with looking at wiring diagrams and trying to figure out what might cause the "Open Circuit" faults for the starter relay.

There's an earth point or two in the engine bay just behind the left headlight(assuming your is a RHD). Take the nuts completly off and clean these points. Then i wold sugest posting scans before ECU swap, tha way it's easier to identify pre-existing faults to new ones. ECU are pretey robust from my point of view and most of them are condemned yet they have no faults.

Unfortunately I can’t post pre Ecu swap autoscan as this was done prior to my knowledge and purchase at auction.

Update I noticed that the coding was for a car with stop start and once this was updated the engine now turns over. However it still doesn’t fire. I’ve noticed that there is a fault with the MAF sensor would this be enough to stop it starting ?

I really doubt that a MAF fault would prevent the starter from engaging. But starter relay faults would, and potentially Neutral Gear Sensor faults as well.

Sorry but I think you misread my update

The starter now engages and using Vcds I can see that the engine is rotating at 280rpm but it doesn’t fire

I still doubt that a MAF fault would prevent it from firing at all. What happens if you disconnect the MAF?

Is the engine code on engine the same as the one in the new ECU. You might need to soucre wirinig diagrams for both the vehicle with the new ECU and your one. Coding alone will not cut it unless every pin is in its designated position. From experience during on going product development, changes can happen to the same vehicle just a week apart in the production line.
Otherwise check your fuel relay then check if you can get cam sensor signal, engine rpm means the crank sensors is probably ok. If cam sensor is showing up during crank then check for power to the coils. If you have all of these and still no firing, then its either wiring pinout issue or immo. Just a out of interest how long was the engine down for? do you have oil pressure in you top end?

I am alot further forward then I was a week ago. The engine runs Woohoo
However I think I've discovered the reason for the faults codes in the engine ECU

I have the original spec for the car from erWin and the car was never originally fitted for start stop and the codes displayed are the replacement ECU 'looking' for the components for start stop

Please remember that I didn't swap the ECU, BCM, Cluster or ignition this was done without my knowledge prior to my purchase.

My question is can the replacement ECU be recoded to the correct spec and therefore not search for elements that don't exist.

Theoretically, it's Byte 6, Bit 0 of the ECU's coding, and it is indeed set in this ECU. The question is whether this ECU's software will accept a change to that bit.

It's possible ECU hardware is correct, but software isn't. In that case, it could be flashed with correct software. But do try the coding first.

Thanks for both suggestions but neither were successful

Both add an additional code saying that the engine control module is incorrectly coded as well as the 4 around the stop start function.

I've managed to locate a replacement ECU set that is the same as the car's original so it may be that another swap will finally sort the issues. I've managed to sort all the other faults that were hidden on this vehicle so on the home straight
