I keep getting conflicting info and not sure if I have messed up....
So what do you guys think?

Car: 2012 Passat natural gas, CDGA engine and DSG gearbox, 7 gears, double clutch
420 000 km

Owner calls about 60000 km AFTER the oil change was due! (She drives 75000 km a year)
"Check engine light on - since some weeks"
"Have have filled up with oil couple of times in one weeks time"
"Coolant has to be topped up as well couple of times"

Coolant leak was the coolant pump.
And:
Fault code on camshaft postion sensor:

We changed oil and told her that this most likely wont last long and the chain and coolant pump would need to be changed ASAP.
The day after, she called and told the car had died on her and didnt start after that - and she had to top up engine oil already after 50 km drive.

I thought I had found i perfect engine to swap with.
130000 km.
But I dont today know, if it came from a manual or DSG AND the engine is from 2010.

I have since that learned that these cars have a habit of beeing near impossible to marry used parts between cars =(

The problem after the swap is following:
The mechatronic doesnt know sometimes what gear to but in - or wether to but an other gear in...
It kind of kicks in the gears. Right from the 1:st to the 2:nd gear.
Ive tried to beform basic settings - without luck.
When I told the owner of this - she told me that the Mechatronics was changed, when the car had hardly 170 000 km on the clock. From the invoice I can read, that it was updated and 2 liters gearbod oil (G052512A2) was used. But at tha time the fault code was different, it was "The clutch opens unintentionally" - no fault codes have been saved on the invoice.
Today:
Fault codes for both clutch 1 and 2, are set almost instantly:
006011 - P177B - 007 - Clutch 1 - Tolerance limit reached - Intermittent fault

I never saved the clutch 2 fault code.
And I have been using the Swedish version.
The car is at our friends who made the swap - who use to work for VAG in the past. His friend, who still works there, is on a holiday for a month and not reachable. So dont know who to ask anymore.

What am I to do next?? Or try?

After some thinking.
Could it be the Mechatronic (that is, already by this time, almost double the age of what it was last time it started to mess up and was changed) - that didnt like beeing zeroed during the engine swap. When the battery was off.
In retrospect, should the Motronic have been supplied with power during the swap?

What about the selector cable adjustment?
The engine and gearbox was removed and the new engine was mounted - then everything was installed in the car.
I am afraid the guys did not read on, before they went on, to do the change....

Lot of things to address, lets get going...

First, please post all autoscan data using the English language version of VCDS. You can install it besides your Swedish version. Most people able to help don't speak Swedish ;)

Thanks for the heads up - now I know how many times I can skip oil changes in order for the engine to seize :D From the factory parts catalogue, the engine block of a CDGA engine from a B6 (2010) and B7 (2011-2015) is the same, regardless of transmission type.

Have you considered the mileage of the current DSG clutch pack? Judging from the DSG SW version, the last clutch change (at least at a dealership) was sometime in 2013. The clutches are a wear item and don't last forever. Have a good look at THIS and then the clutch measurement blocks in the TCM.

If all the selector positions work and are correctly indicated in the MFA, then its not the selector cable.

I do have the English version and do use it when I know I need to post something here =)
Unfortunatelly I never did an English autoscan, before or after, the engine change. At the moment the car is not here.

Very happy to hear that the engine is the same. We have a friend whos son works at VAG - and that Junior (his name) said for a long time that the engines are different....

There was no problems with the clutches before the engine change. It came immediately after the change.
The fault code on clutch 1, came first.
I did the basic setting and after that both clutch 1 and 2 gave fault codes.

To change both clutches is not a sheap thing - so Id like to be VERY sure before proceeding on that.
Is there a way to find out that the Mechatronic is intact?
What about the gear selector lever cable? If that is not correctly adjusted - would that give this fault codes?

Well, there were some improvements to the CDGA engine on the B7 but if the swapped B6 engine itself is running fine, why bother for now? I hope you at least changed the timing chain on the replaced engine...

According to a dealership master tech I know, the performing of basic settings brings out all the clutch wear related symptoms. If the mechatronic was adapted to the worn clutches, performing basic settings wipes this adaptation away and you are left with jerky gearshifts.

Read what I said about the selector cable and the linked article about the clutch parameters and report back ;)

Did you know adding Engine oil and thicker ATF viscosity by means of experiments in the DSG's & that were once allegedly condemned bad, have been very promising to stop jerky jerky shift routines & while bringing back additional useful life of exceeding an additional 100K now?

Yes - OF COURSE the chain, tensioners, seals (forgotton everything I bought for it =) but it was the lots - except the VVT pulley ) has been done before mounting to the car!!!!! Oil has been canged!

I tried the basic settings only after the problems started, when I picked up the car - and I guess - Mectatronic beeing without power during the work, it perhaps already there, lost all its learnings.
And the new engine was running fine according to the scrapper - a one we trust as well.
And the car has been used as horse trailer puller, as well as been driven 270 000 km, the last 4 years.

Let you guys know, when I know more.

No problem!

A horse trailer puller? I've only pulled light trailers (750kg fully laden) with my 2011 Passat B7 CNG and it felt like torturing the DSG clutches while maneuvering :) My ex-Swedish car is "a bit" less used with 82000km driven in the last 4 years (total 158000km). DSG clutches were changed at 40000km and have lasted 118000km so far.

I have no idea how it has been behaving with horse trailer - and the owner is not trusted with any car really... When she came to us 1½ years ago - we told her that her car was over due by far! We told her to get rid of it right away. And we didnt even know it was that cursed DSG gearsbox on it!! Only the "unfortunate" chain.... We could see it had been changed once - but too long ago. So we told her she H-A-D TO change oils every 1000 km! She did once and then - she forgot or what ever happened. My chin dropped when I found out how far she had driven.... and then: driving around with Check engine light on, for at least couple of weeks (I dont know if she told the truth) - filling on oil and coolant God knows how often!!

Its good to know though - how yours is behaving! It sounds more and more like she is up for a clutch change as well.... We will have to see.

Im at loss - but my gut feeling is clucthes.
This is what I saved from our test drive.
I managed to make a basic setting in Measuring Block 060 - then after that, basic setting in 069: where the adaptation/setting turned into "ON" for a brief second and back to "OFF"; briefly to "ON" and then "OFF" - so dont think anyting was adapted. Tried several times.
After the Basic setting of 060 measuring block adaptation - there will always be sett an intermittent fault code on something with "too short travel" (unfortunatelly I did not save it).

Anyhow - after this procedure - for a short time, I thought we had succeeded =) For at least 5 km the shifting went perfectly!! No fault codes.
Earlier, doing the basic setting, made no difference, the fault code (006011 - P177B - 003 - Clutch 1 - Tolerance limit reached) was sett directly after first meters of driving.
Then - all of the sudden, in shifting to higher gears - the hard shifiting started again. First came the clutch 1 fault code (NO LONGER INTERMITTENT)- and after 3 km the clutch 2 fault code. It happens in all gears - but is hardest in shifiting from 1 to 2 and in reverse.

I tried to measure as much I could while hubby drove. That Russian home page is HUGE!!! I saved 19 pdf documents about Mechatronics, clutches and DSG boxes =)

Our car is manufactured in october 2011.
The clutch is different between <juny/>july 2011. I guess I need to take a look at the manufacturing date on the gearbox??

Is there something extra thats good to know, chaning the clutch? Our friend has done it once at a workshop, at work, some time ago.

3:
Special tools are needed. We dont think our friend has the opportunity to borrow the tools from his work.
The kit I have been looking at online, dont have any listing on exactly, what parts is included.
Any tip on that?

4:
In case we would need to desmantle the Mechatronic - there is a special tool needed for that. T10407 Correct? Where to get one? Everything online has 4-5 weeks delevery.
We are planning on changning the oil when the clutch is beeing changed. In case we cannot desmantle it - we are going to try to poor it out without removing the unit from gearbox....

According to the drive2 article, those clutch parameters aren't good.

Where are you seeing this clutch date info? My vehicle is manufactured september 2011 and gearbox code is NAU. Yours is most probably the same. The HW and SW part numbers in the scan are the same.

I could see the info about change in clutch kits, on the home page that sells LUK clutches.
I called VAG and they told me it shoudl be the kit that has original number 0AM198140L (so, this one from LUK: 602000600, 2:nd generation clutch kit).

Thanks a lot! It feels better knowing instead of guessing.

The special tools kits are EXPENSIVE though =(

0AM198140L is the clutch kit which has currently lasted me close to 120000km. By now it has been superseded to 0AM198142AA, though the LUK and Sachs part numbers will still be the same. When changing the clutch pack, its advised to update the TCU SW to the latest version. For this box, its SW version number is 6248.

I havent checked the SW yet, I only know they chnaged the Mechatronic unit 2016 and updated the software.
But I will be checking the software numbers.
We are going to order the clutch kit through my friens work and hopefully be able to borrow the tools in the same time. Its a LUK kit. The guy who can make the order is on holiday =) They all are at the moment.
Thank you for remebering me!!! It will be couple of weeks before the car is running again. I will leet you know how it went!

So the clutch has been changed and the verdict is:
The transmission is behaving the same as before =(
I will be gettng the software version next.

I have been to to the car and triied to do all the adaptations mentioned in the Russian site.
MB 060 - no problem.
MB 069 how ever stops like this (it did do it even before the clutch change):


In the above picture, there is also seen a worn but functioning clutch (from the Russian site). On our clutch, the spring was somewhat more out, and the pins inside where cracked. But I think clutch still worked.

Of course I forgot to check the software number when I was at the car.
But I notised one thing.
When the car is cold - there is no problems with changing the gears.
When the oil gets warm - the problems start.
