Hi,

I have a transplanted 1.9l TDI VW ASV engine in my van from a 2002 European Golf. VCDS works perfectly but every OBDII scanner I plug in does not work.

I have pins 4, 5 (ground) 7, 15 and 16 connected. I believe that 15 does not go back to the ECU, but I'm not sure.

Am I missing pins for OBDII that VCDS does not use?

Thanks,
Gregor

Are you sure this engine controller supports Generic OBD-2?

https://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/obd-2.php

Generic OBD-II compatibility was required as of model year 1996 in the USA, model year 1998 in Canada, and 2001 (gasoline) or 2004 (diesel) for in the European Market. All 2008 and newer vehicles sold in the US are required to use CAN-Bus diagnostics for Generic OBD-II so it shouldn't hurt to try this function on any brand.

I'm pretty sure it does, but now that I think about it that may be an assumption on my part. I'll look into it and get back to this question when I find out. Thanks.

Are there any docs on the USB data stream for the HEX-V2. I'd love to be able to code up my own little monitor for the information I want to display.

In Europe a 2002 diesel Golf will not support EOBD / OBD-II protocols.
Diesel models did not become EOBD / OBD-II compliant until 2004.
You will need to use VCDS or other tools speaking VAG specific languages to communicate with this engine.
