I’m trying to diagnose an issue where my battery runs low everyday. As far as I know, nothing in the car goes dead(radio, lights), except the car will not start. It dwindles down throughout the day until I’m not able to crank. The radio is on fine, and I believe my lights work fine. Battery is brand new . As far as I can see everything works, but will not crank at the end of the day. Obviously, the car is living off the battery.
Is there a module in VCDS to test the altenator or/and starter.? I ran a scan, and nothing shows up. I’ve been keeping it on life support (battery mainter).
Should I start by Replacing the battery cable? Any suggestions?

Have you tried measuring the battery voltage using a DVOM at the beginning and end of the day?

If the voltage isn't dropping (which as you say the lights are fine is what I am thinking) then the problem lies in the cabling between the battery and the starter (not forgetting the return cabling via the chassis).

This look like anything above & related to sleep mode not made?

How about measure for current draw to verify sleep mode is entered & by forcing zones first and measure voltage to isolate systems one by one to determine what is the parasite?

Are you sure your new battery is not bad, does it remain charged if isolated?

If I look at your autoscan, 11.9V battery voltage.. It's not super perfect but it should easily crank your car.
First I'd agree with PetrolDave, check the leads running up to your starter engine.
I'd suspect the engine to complain about a starter engine being stuck if the leads to/from the starter engine are in bad shape.

Anyway, time to get out the DVOM indeed!

Is your ignition lock still in good nick? Starter relays all happy? Does the red/black wire of the starter get 12V when you turn the key?
Starter needs 12V from the battery directly, good GND (through the engine) and input signal. Check all please.

I also agree with Jack. Parasitic draw test is an easy way to gain insight into what's happening to your car at rest.

- Ignition OFF
- Close the driver door lock catcher with a screw drive (door remains open but thinks it is closed)
- Lock the car
- Wait for some time
- Put a multimeter between battery negative pole and chassis and make sure it's the only connection to the battery on the negative side. This might require some juggling with wires. Make sure the battery never disconnects.
- Measure amps drawn by the car. Should be << 0.1 A ideally.
- If not, remove fuses one by one in a systematic and logical way according to the fuse chart (i.e. engine related stuff first, then the door modules, radio etc).
- Watch for any significant drops in current draw to detect any smoking guns.

Yes, the battery remains charged when I disconnect for a period of time. , and I got the battery from a VW car dealer.(brand new). At first I was disconnecting the battery, when I was not using the car. Battery stayed charged when I reconnect it. I got a battery maintainer so I wouldn’t have to disconnect anymore, because as you know, each time you disconnect, it will reset certain parts of the car, so I got a battery maintainer to keep the battery good. I don’t drive the car everyday.

The first thing I would do is look at the battery voltage while the engine is running. If it isn't at least 13V, there's something wrong with the alternator or the wiring between the alternator and the battery.

Are you going to continue too ignore the door lock module fault aforementioned in scan, further being defective?

You do realize this is most likely your problem right?

I guess my answer to this thread is most likely neither?

I’ve been troubleshooting the left black door module. I had an issue with my top. The left back window goes down with the front door main controls, it just does not go down when I put down the roof. Not sure why.
Question...the diag complains about the left back door module, but it technically works...does that mean it’s going bad? I did do a door reset with the key, and I believe I reset it by removing the fuses as well. (I’ll have to try the fuses again).
Not ignoring you...your help is greatly appreciated.

Verify the zone for alarm function yet, because this is what permits sleep mode, not the window or top function?

Is door module the correct part number and coding, firmware level for 0x62?

Looks like it is maybe try to default it with recode and reboot car?

If I look at your autoscan, 11.9V battery voltage.. It's not super perfect but it should easily crank your car.
First I'd agree with PetrolDave, check the leads running up to your starter engine.
I'd suspect the engine to complain about a starter engine being stuck if the leads to/from the starter engine are in bad shape.

.

- Ignition OFF
- Close the driver door lock catcher with a screw drive (door remains open but thinks it is closed)
- Lock the car
- Wait for some time
.
Can you be a little more explicit? Do you mean the intent is to block the curved part of the latch which strikes and latches onto the u shaped part on the door sill? What do you suggest to use? What is screw drive? Will this put the entire car to sleep even with the hood open?
Thanks

If you bypass a hood or door zone by unplugging latch or manual set, can't you observe operation in VCDS or voltages/current you seek to test?

Do you have RTFB and do you know what a decade box is?

Did you JPPSG yet?

Voltage on the battery while running...13.2V. Voltage on the battery without running...12.7.

Did you try pulling the latch with screw driver or awl to see if it releases when opening door inside car or at handle after unlocked?

Here is what I did. To lock pushed the curved exposed portion of the latch toward the door using the handle of a screw driver. The door could not be shut in this condition (that's OK). To unlock I used the unlock button on the key fob and then pulled the handle.Voila!
The simplest thing becomes complicated if you don't have the correct picture in your mind. I had asked the same question but didn't get a useful response.

That is the exact thing I did last night. Unlocked the car with the KeyFob, then pull the handle. THis released the latch. Thanks.

Question? Can I rule out the Alternator in this scenario? Is it actually charging the battery? 13.2V - 12.7V = .5V

What test did you do with meter on latch or to repair fault?

Why are you focused on the alternator and starter?
