Hi. So i had my car on EU periodic control, and the mechanic gave me feedback that the trailer connection was not working correctly.

I got Touran 2008 model with original vw trailer module:
Code:
 Address 69: Trailer Labels: 1K0-907-383-V2.clb
Control Module Part Number: 1K0 907 383 E HW: 1K0 907 383 E
  Component and/or Version: Anhaenger H07 0050
           Software Coding: 0100000100000000
            Work Shop Code: WSC 00000 000 00000
                      VCID: 2F549EB47EEDD1370C-807A

After checking old fault codes i got this:
Code:
00532 - Supply Voltage B+
            011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent - MIL ON
             Freeze Frame:
                    Fault Status: 10101011
                    Fault Priority: 3
                    Fault Frequency: 15
                    Reset counter: 122
                    Mileage: 127944 km
                    Time Indication: 0
                    Date: 2000.00.00
                    Time: 18:25:17

Milage now is like 228 000 km. i reseted this fault code.

After checking connections on the trailer socket i didnt get any voltages out when testing left/right signal. Something was wrong. So i checked further....

I checked the fuses related to trailer and there was one blown 20A fuse for the F40 trailer detection control unit. I replaced it with a new one and used the 69-trailer 03 output tests to generate volts for each signal and other tests. All of the tests where found to be OK after testing each with output test. However, i dont have trailer and i cant test it to be sure its working. Can i be sure that if these output tests generate 12volts connecting to correct place with mulitmeter, will it also work when connected to any electrically working trailer?

One more thing. I think i get lower volts than the battery itself when testing, showing just 11.46 volts in trailer socket. And also another weird thing, there is constantly 1.76 volts on each output when there is no signal. Can this be sign of some trouble? Some earth leakage or something?

BTW in case there si a need for it, here is my complete auto diag:

If a trailer-related fuse was blown, you replaced it, cleared the fault in module 69 and the fault didn't come back - then you should be good. I wouldn't worry about the voltage thing unless after connecting a trailer, the fuse blows again. You can check with a trailer simulator.

I guess i have to check with a real trailer to be sure. If im not lucky and there is something wrong when the mechanic tests it again, it will cost me some more money to go back to the EU control workshop once again.

Simulator? Is this something cheap i can buy? Sounds expensive.

Thank you all for suggestions.

I tried a trailer today, and this is what happened: There were lights that normally lit up when you connect a trailer. Like sign lights and the red ones that usually lit up when car is started with trailer attached. However, no brake or turning lights worked. I dont know if the fault is with the trailer or the car connection. Also i used a 13p to 7p adapter, and im not sure if its something wrong with that one. I just ordered one of those simulators to be sure.

I got the simulator and tried it.

All the lights on the simulator shows on without using/testing them, seams like the 1.75volts on all measurements on lights that are not enabled show there is something wrong with the trailer unit or something. When i actually use the lights, ie the brake lights, they do work. However the other lights are sometimes on, or showing yellom instead of green. To be honest i dont quite understand this simulator... i couldnt find any manual on it either.

Not sure what to do next but im considering changing the trailer unit. Then another question comes to mind. What kind of trailer units can i use with this wiring and connection? My model is 1k0 907 383 e. One black and one red connector to it.

Edit: Is for example this model the same as the one i have? Looks exact same. There are several models that look exactly same, but have different ending, instead of E it is either B, D, or F. Is this the revision of the hardware? And can i use backwards, forwards?

Ive have bought a used module with same hardware version, but different software version. I measure the same fault with that attached as the former one. But do i need to program the trailer module somehow?

I have measured again with volts... i get 1.63V between earth pin 13 on trailer and pin 5, 7, 4, 1. This is weird!
12Volts between pin 13 and 9.
350 ohms between earth pin 13 and 12 volt pin 9.

Why am i measuring 1.63V between earth and several of the plugs on the trailer when they are not in use? I am stuck and need help with the diagnose.

Edit: I read somewhere that there can be a bulb failure test builtin and sometimes its 2V, 3V and similar. Is this what i have been experiencing?

That would be my guess; the module is supplying a low voltage (maybe even a PWM signal with low duty cycle) to see if there's a bulb on that circuit. What happens of you apply a load?

Sorry that i forgot to reply here. I changed the module with an used one from ebay and now it works. Same version and sw. No programming needed apparently. Its the same module as i got weird voltages from, but it was nothing wrong with it when tested at workshop.
