Hello. 2013 Passat TDI SEL premium. Ive done a few tweaks such as RNS510 theme, gauge staging, rain sensing wipers, climatronic staging, and emergency ABS lighting but have a few specifics I would like to do that I can't find specific answers to. I would love to code the fog lights to come on when the headlights come on (automatic), getting old and the lighting with the fogs on looks much better. Yes its a "first world problem" but would love to make that happen. Would also like to know if I can delay the time it takes for the auto headlights to turn on... When I pull in my garage I hate that the auto headlights turn on and 10 seconds later I turn the car off. Seems like unnecessary stress on the bulbs. Lastly, I can't seem to figure out dew drop for my wipers (or whatever its called where they make 1 more swipe X seconds later after washing). I've found posts saying click the pull down menu and select schwetzer (or whatever) but I don't have that option. Thanks so much in advance for any and all help.

Kind of annoying that they don't offer the NAR NMS Passat with modern HID headlights at any price, isn't it?

I rather doubt there's a way to do that; the German engineers are know to be law-abiding to a fault and it's illegal in much of Europe to have your fogs on when it's not foggy.

Would also like to know if I can delay the time it takes for the auto headlights to turn on... When I pull in my garage I hate that the auto headlights turn on and 10 seconds later I turn the car off. Seems like unnecessary stress on the bulbs.
I'm not aware of any way to do that either.

Lastly, I can't seem to figure out dew drop for my wipers (or whatever its called where they make 1 more swipe X seconds later after washing). Hmm, I'm surprised that's not enabled stock. Have you posted an Auto-Scan from your car yet?

Ok, I checked what we have regarding that BCM. I found teardrop wiping for the rear wiper (which you don't have!) but nothing for the front wipers. Perhaps I'm missing something too.

Any updated thoughts on this? (And thank you for the "code" correction to my scan).

I don't think the fog light tweak is possible either. The Auto delay however may be possible...but I'm not at a PC with access to coding info at the moment and I'd need to find the VW Vortex thread from a few years ago. Bump this back up if I don't get back to you before Friday.

You may want to scroll up for MVB and coding screen shots but that was a retrofit in a GTI with a very similar BCM.

Thanks, any thoughts on the teardrop wiping? And that link looks to be EXACTLY what i want. A 15 second delay would be perfect.

Tried that originally. Wischer is not available under the drop down menu.

OK. It was worth a shot. So I guess it is either done through some other coding on your particular BCM or it's just not possible to set on your car.

Light timer delay worked nearly perfectly. the maximum value I can enter is 250ish which translates to about 15 seconds (I think) which is not perfect, but far better than original. I thought I was on to something with the fog lights but it didnt work. I coded the car to have DRl active at all times when low beams are on and then also selected fogs to be used as DRL. Seems to me if it's possible, i'm on the right track, but I was in a rush to leave so had to give up after my first attempt. What I did notice is if I turn the auto headlight switch off, the low beams and DRL were both on. With switch in auto, just low beams were on (but it is dark out). Bear with me, usually my mind works much faster than I can type or explain my thoughts. If anyone could explain these 2 selections in better detail maybe it would help, or further verify that it can't be done. Thanks.

Try this and see if those same options are available for setting on your particular car...

OK. It was worth a shot. So I guess it is either done through some other coding on your particular BCM or it's just not possible to set on your car.

Yeah for some reason the NAR market GLI and NMS do not have a diagnostic capable Wiper slave like regular MK5/6 based Golf models. Since the wiper module doesn't communicate on a LIN bus ... you can't code it. You might be able to retrofit a diagnostic capable wiper motor module (J400) and add the LIN wiring (if that wire isn't already present) but I don't think it would be worth it for coding tweaks alone .. and I do not know if those BCMs would support the communication side of things.

So, you are correct Gary and this is not possible to set on his car.

Locoelectrician,
I'm glad to hear the Adaptation settings helped but I do not think you are going to be able to enable fogs and low beams automatically / simultaneously. My Tiggy Headlight switch won't let you pull out (fogs ON) in the Auto position and if you attempt to rewire the switch so the fog ON signal is sent to the BCM while the Auto signal is enabled I'm pretty sure that will end in a E1 fault code.

Yea, I don't expect to be able to do it but I'm not afraid to experiment. Any thoughts behind why im limited to 15 seconds on light delay? My guess would be that's the way VW designed it so deal with it.

The highest value you would have been able to set it to is 255. This is the maximum decimal value for a "byte" which equates to HEX value "FF".

The VAG engineers probably decided that an upper limit of 15 seconds (so 17 decimal points per second) was more than sufficient. While that period might be OK for when driving into a garage, under most other circumstances a majority of people would never want the lights taking as long as 15 seconds to come on. So I can only guess that the VAG engineers used some logic along those lines when deciding how many "decimal points per second" to program the microcontroller in the BCM with.

Sounds reasonable enough. I was only hoping for more because after I pull in the garage I sit and wait for the EGT and CAT temps to drop below 450. Guess I can't have it all, unless someone wants to modify the program. Thanks.

Ok, so can I have the gear position shown while in drive? DSG transmission. I've read that it's possible as well as impossible. This car has proven to not exactly follow the coding "rules" so what say the experts?

Ok, so apparently the light delay did not work after all. Today was the first day it was light enough when I got home for them to still be off. Pulled in my garage and before the car was all the way in the headlights turned on. Seems to be the exact same as stock. Any other ideas on how to make it work or something I may have wrong?
