Greetings!

We have a Polo 1.4 75 hp 2001 Color Concept, which refuses to start.

The scan (see below) says P1570-35, indicating on immo. But, it doesn't fire at all. Immo-blocks usually allow the engine to shortly ignite, before cut out. So we changed to another ECM with its pairing immo and key. This returned several other codes, but not the P15770-35 "immo-fault". Still, not spark at all.

How to address this? Is it the combi instrument?

Thank you in advance!
sincerely, Tobias, Sweden

Admin Request 1: Please do not use the [Print] function in VCDS to post data here. The native .txt data that VCDS produces directly using [Copy] or [Save] is considerably easier to read here in the forum.

Admin Request 2: VCDS 15.7.4? Really? Updates are free.

Is 036-906-034-AQ an appropriate replacement for 036-906-034-D?

I notice they are coded differently and the new ECU complains it is incorrectly coded.

Request 1: certainly, my apologies. It won't happen again.

Request 2: The XP-laptop isn't fond of more updates, but next time I'll download it to a newer computer. However, won't the old version do for an old car?

Tried to recode the replacement. However it seems it did not accept the change. Reading an old thread here, it is suggested one also must login in order to get the ECM to accept the new code. Haven't had the guts yet to try.

Yes but why is the old one bad or diagnosed as bad?

When you crank engine can you see RPM ref in VCDS blocks & is there a pulse to coil with LED probe on trigger?

It's ALWAYS worth keeping VCDS updated, it doesn't cost anything and it gets you bug fixes and updates to data files - even those for older cars as the community discover more information. There really is no good reason not to be using the latest VCDS - unless you don't have a genuine Ross-Tech cable of course?

There may be some reason but it does not fit in this topic and I will start a new one when I got enough data collected.

No, he has a legitimately licensed cable. Trust me, I checked quite carefully in this case! :D

I can't stress enough that if you have G28 and G40 but in some ECU's if the timing is out of phase, it can indeed stop a spark pulse and this used to happen in old distributor motors way back when too or waste spark type coil drivers.

Be absolutely sure you have terminal 15 to coil during being cranked too because if an ignition switch is FUBAR this can happen too.

The fuel pump relay DTC also bothers me.

as I answered above - my old laptop doesn't accept further VCDS updates. Next time though, I'll run the scans on my new laptop with latest specs of VCDS. Peace

Thank you all for your input!
The car has yet to start.

The reason for trying another box/immo/key is due to scan says "blocked by immo" thinking maybe the key has lost its connection to transponder or something. By changing box/immo/key we wanted to solve the problem. And I believe it's a great clue, since car is equally dead using box no2, but no "blocked by immo"-error code.

We will check all new clues and return here with more info or even better the news that car is ok. Since we run no business - this is friend of mine's car - we might progress slowly.

Sincerely /Tobias

Thank you. I thought so too. Car cranks, but doesn't start at all.

Yes we know that, that is why I want you to see it is another underlined condition in addition to possible battery or immobilizer issues too?

Have you checked phase timing of the G28 and G40 yet + compression?

But still it doesn't start.

Yes, I still run the VCDS on my old XP-laptop, since win10-laptop with latest version can't find the dongle, my apologies.

You have an Auto-Intern Auto-COM or Multi-Scan. They have a driver for it here:
https://www.auto-intern.de/downloads/treiber-firmware/

It's the second download on that page. Or try this direct/deep link:
https://www.auto-intern.de/media/archive/dc/04/7b/usb-driver.zip

Change to box 3, which is also a D-box, like original.
Here is its readings:
That immo appears to be dead. It doesn't respond (no address 25 in that scan) and it doesn't let the K-line through to the W-line either, as indicated by the lack of response from 01-Engine.

Between scans 1 and 2 you also swapped ECUs?

Given the age of this car, maybe the best approach would be to send the correct ECU out to someone who can do an immo defeat on it?

immo defeated, 3 complete sets of ECU + immos

Thank you, I will try it.

Between scan 1 and scan 2, we swapped ECU and immo-unit. The ECU and Immo-unit were harvested from the same donor car.
Between scan 2 and scan 3, we again swapped ECU together with corresponding immo.
So all in all, the complete sets of ECU+immo with its keys.

Given the age of this car, maybe the best approach would be to send the correct ECU out to someone who can do an immo defeat on it?

We tried that too, sending original box to immo defeaters. It was reinstalled with exactly the same VCDC readings and same no starting car.

So the immo defeat was undone, still no change in VCDC or starting.

However, might it be another problem, than immo? Some people says that with immo fault, engine should fire and run for two seconds, before cut out. This one doesn't run at all.

Good point. I would also expect a car of this age to fire momentarily before cutting out if the Immo was the only issue.
