2013 Jetta Hybrid - Hybrid Error light on

Girlfriend reported to me hybrid error light on, and car running on gas, no electric. I cleared all codes (I saved the prior scan and can post that too but it's mostly related to a prior battery issue, low voltage this, that, and the other thing..), and when put it into gear, car was working on electric, but within a second of hitting the accelerator pedal in D, hybrid light comes on, and car works on only gas. Pulled over, cleared code, put in gear, and again, almost instantly after hitting accelerator, Hybrid error light comes on, same code popping up. Did this a couple more times for troubleshooting purposes, and same result each time.

Did some googling with really odd results, so I come here again, this forum has been kind to me.. Anybody point me to my next troubleshooting step?

Edit: A little more troubleshooting. Ran output tests and monitored Brake Pressure sensor value. Sitting in park the number is roughly 280. Depress brake and pressure momentarily goes up to low 300s, then with brake held settles down to like 260. Let off brake and pressure momentarily rises to mid to high 300's, then settles back to approx 280.
One more weird thing, not sure how helpful it will be, but I duplicated 4 or 5 times: If I clear the engine code, then turn off car(push button) with no lights on dash, open door, close door, then start car (press and hold brake, press start button), the engine starts for a second, then shuts down, EPC light on, hybrid light on, engine light on. Car won't do anything. Need to stop engine, open and close door, then starting car, it 'works' in that now just the hybrid light is on and car will run on gas and move. I can shut it off and restart over and over as long as hybrid error light on. Clear code, stop engine, open and close door, then start car consistently acts as described, all 3 lights come and car won't go. Weird.

Hello,

The fault code [P0556 00] refers to the [G294 - brake Booster Pressure Sensor] which is located on the Brake Booster vacuum hose.

The G294's pressure is in hPa, so a value of 280-300 or so is not bad, since that would indicate a vacuum and around 280-300 mbar.

I would remove the G294 sensor and re-check the values to see if they are closer to the 980-1020 range (1 atmosphere of pressure), unless you are at a higher elevation, then the values would be less.

The G294 is a 5-volt sensor, so you should have ground on pin (1) and 4.5 to 5.5v on pin (3), the signal is on pin (4) and pin (3) is not used.

The part number of the G294 should be as per VIN, (036 906 051 G), there are no supersessions.

Thank You.. Tests confirm what you say, ohms about 13 on 1 to ground, 5.02 volts on pin 3 and 5.62 volts on pin 4.

Does this point to replacing that sensor? At $120 I hate to just swap parts out..

Assuming there are no leaks or clogs for the vacuum system that said sensor monitors, I would replace the sensor.

Assuming there are no leaks or clogs for the vacuum system that said sensor monitors, I would replace the sensor.
Replaced sensor, problem remains. I clear the code and it comes back fairly quickly. I ran some output tests on brake related items, that log is pasted below, not sure it will be any help. I cleared the code, then started the log, then stepped on brake for a second or so, and released. A split second after releasing pedal, hybrid light comes back on, code is back.. That seems to be a repeatable scenario. Clear code, step on brake, as brake is released, light come on.. Any other thoughts before I take it to the dealer to get bent over?

Why are 0x09 & 0x46 offline and is terminal relays functioning, are the doors unlocked?
Did you check the adaptation for the auxiliary pump for brake vacuum if supported or accumulation?

Are you only making brake vacuum from the engine or is it available during hybrid operations too?

I very much appreciate the help, but I'm not sure how to check the things you ask (except the doors are unlocked..:-)..) I'm fairly computer savvy, and a rather good troubleshooter in general, but most of my mechanic experience has been with older cars. I have a scan tool, and the ross tech adaptor for the Jetta, but my knowledge in using them is novice level (maybe slightly above novice). If it's easy enough to give a more laymans explanation, I would really appreciate it..


I'm suspecting the booster pump, and was going to check the fuses and relays for the booster pump, but I can't find an accurate fuse/relay diagram for the car. Why they wouldn't put it in the owners manual or on the fuse covers is beyond me.. I've checked alldata and googled a bunch, and nothing Ive found so far matches exactly what I see in the car for fuses/relays. I have pulled and looked at many fuses, all good so far, and I swapped around relays that were the same part number, but that's not definitive of anything. Any chance you know where I could get an accurate fuse/relay diagram?

As to the question on whether brake vacuum is available during hybrid operations, I suspect not, and that is the reason for the code. I suspect that when the conditions call for the pump, it doesn't work, hence the code, but without an accurate fuse/relay diagram, I'm kinda stuck.
