Hi All

Usual 1.6tdi Caddy problems 5 years old 30000 miles and three injectors gone.

First cylinder 3, replaced under warranty.
Second cylinder 2, new injector.
Third cylinder 1, I thought i would try a reconditioned injector.

The first two injectors no problem yet the third has left the engine noisy.

There were no faults on auto-scan so i assume its ok not to post.

I ran a Injection amount deviation, and this is were you guys come in and help me understand the values.
I am i right in thinking cylinder 1 should be a similar deviation to the other cylinders

There were no faults on auto-scan so i assume its ok not to post.
It would still be helpful. There's a lot if info in an Auto-Scan besides just fault codes. Things like the exact ECU variant, the software version that the ECU has in it, and so on.

Thanks for the replies.

All of the new injectors have been coded.
The reconditioned injector has passed there in house calibration, although their data sheet showed it failed on the Flush and NOP (nozzle opening pressure) test.
I did query theses failures and they said it would work fine.
I do use a redex diesel additive and use Costco UK fuel.
In the UK we are given two year warranty post fix.

According Your log posted in first post injector for cylinder 1 may not be ok. To test try replacing it or swaping to another cyl.

Ethanol in diesel? I don't think so, and this isn't the first time I've questioned it.

-Uwe-

Yeah I been questioning it too & almost on a daily, it seems fuel suppliers are indeed putting Ethanol in bio diesel and not even telling people it's bio diesel Uwe and sometimes with no ref to it in some regions at all, did you see the links?

Suitable for all commercial motor oils in gasoline and diesel engines with and without diesel particulate filter (DPF). Tested safe with catalytic converters and turbochargers. Our dosage recommendation: add from 3 – 5 % to motor oil. For motorcycles with wet clutches, add maximum 2 % of the oil filling volume.

Suitable for all 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines. 20 ml (1 tube) sufficient for 1 l of motor oil. 2-stroke engines: 10 ml per 10 l of fuel mixture or 20 ml for 400 ml of 2-stroke oil. Tested on engines with catalytic converters.

This is why I tried these in ALL fuels and so far shows positive results...........

I am in the process of finding out which prefix software was on my caddy, there is nothing on the ECU. My immediate problem is getting the injectors sorted out. Do you think a rollback will improve injector performance?

Nope but installation of a proper working and adapted injector set will, in addition to considered aforementioned solutions to cause to prevent it.

Did you know there is an update available going forward?

What does Costco rate the fuel as B7, ED etc.?

Post a picture of the fuel pumps and data sheets please.

Deposit control additives:
Every grade of Kirkland Signature™ Fuel contains deposit control additive that keeps your engine protected and running like new.
Variations in deposit control additive formulations are the main difference between brands of fuel. Kirkland Signature™ Fuels have been proven to clean deposits and restore dirty engine components to like-new performance.
To comply with the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RFTO) order and European legislation, a certain amount of ethanol may be blended with British Standard petrol (BS EN 228) and biodiesel with British Standard diesel (BS EN 590).I hope this is of use.

Pump labelling was introduced in the UK in the second half of 2019, diesel pumps are now labelled B7 and petrol (gasoline) labelled E5.

A lobby group are calling for all UK petrol (gasoline) to become E10 in 2020, but the Government have not decided what to do yet.

Well, I think that settles what is damaging pumps or injection systems, no?

Alcohol!

When I went to France a couple of years ago in one small town the only available gasoline was E10, it took less than 10 miles for the wide range lambda sensor on my 1.4TSI Skoda Octavia to "throw it's toys out of the pram" by reporting crazy inconsistent values. Since the next refill (with E5 gasoline) and clearing the DTC all has been back to normal with no spurious DTCs from the lambda sensor.

Now I avoid E10 gasoline like the plague, if it ever becomes "normal" in the UK I'll be spending most of the time driving with the emissions light on :banghead:

I would speculate you got a bad batch of fuel in your tank. Almost all the gasoline sold here in the US is E10 and while one can certainly see the difference between it and non-ethanol gasoline if one looks at the fuel trims (I've done this!), using it should not set any DTCs unless something is already much closer to the edge than it should be.
