Zero seconds might just be "Don't ever do that".

Have you tried some really low, but non-zero value?

You're a good man for responding to my inquiries. Yes, I will try that today or tomorrow. Perhaps 30 seconds? Let me know if you have a specific timeframe in mind and I'll try that.

If it were me, I would try 5 or 10 seconds, just for laughs.

Well, no luck there either. I set it to 10 s and left the car for about an hour. Came back and the driver's seat heater activated as soon as I started the car. This just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm going to investigate what happens with the rear seats. I'll see if they are acting the same or deactivating as expected. Maybe the setting effects the rears seats exclusively.

Well, maybe things aren't as bad as I initially thought. The rear seat heaters turn off as expected: that is when the car is turned off, locked (waited more than ten seconds), then restarted, they default to the off position. However the front seats remember their last setting and default to that no matter what I try.

I guess I can live with this...not like I have a choice. My wife's Lexus GX460 is the same way, but in fairness the switches that activate the front heated seats are mechanical and so they stay in position they were left in (until manually "rolled" back into the off position).

When I try to do this I get a "channel not available " message. Any hints or suggestions?

hmm........ I've not done these changes, so I can't vouch for the tweak - but how did you search for the channels in VCDS?

To be more fulsome, the complete descriptor for the 2 x channels in OP's post are like this:
IDE11502-ENG1276xx-Locked menu contents-FB_CAR_x
ENG167428-ENG1675xx-nhtsa_properties-limitation_dependency

the xx above means that there are multiple "Child" channels associated to the "Parent" channel names (being the descriptor immediately after the "-" following the Tag numbers.

So - try entering "FB_CAR" into the search box for the first group of channels - and "nhta_properties" for the second group.

Don

EDIT: here is the complete list of channels for the 2 x groups:
Code:
IDE11502-ENG127601-Locked menu contents-FB_CAR_0
IDE11502-ENG127602-Locked menu contents-FB_CAR_1

Thanks for your reply. I've done that and still get "channel not available". I did update to the latest software but no change.

^ ^^^ OK - the repeated "not available" could mean lots of things -just as a suggestion, post-up an adaptation channel map of the hex5F module. This will confirm (or not) if the requisite channels are actually on your module

Hi Don,
I did an adaptation channel map and it did say that the channels you listed (which I found) were not available. My pc was being wonky while I was trying how to figure out how to download and post the scan. Maybe they are not on my module and I can't do these changes. There are other adaptations I am able to do in the 5F module. I just didn't know if there was something that need to be done in order to "unlock" the channel if that makes sense.

^^kczach: As I have said in a previous post:

Again with the caveat that I'm not familiar with either the tweak that RERICSON has suggested, or the build platform for Audi s8 (MLB?) - in general, the "normal" restriction for modifying adaptation channels in modules is the prior entry of the correct security code (called SA on this forum). My strong suspicion is that an SA will be required to affect any changes that you intend to make in the hex5F module. Try using mr Google to find the correct SA (or, perhaps a more knowledgeable forum colleague might help).

And.......... take care to note the before/after values for the channels that you change. VCDS has a record keeping facility as the solution of last resort if the tweak goes pear shape and the loose stools and the brown stuff collide with the proverbial fan blades! But, it's far better if you keep your own ACCURATE records - because the trial-and-error technique that you are contemplating is prone to many false entries.

Don

Before you connect to the car with your laptop, open your hood. I have heard that some cars need the hood to be open to perform certain tweaks.
