Hi everyone,
I was attempting to change the coding of the instrument cluster on my friend's 2017 VW Golf to remove the seat-belt warning and after multiple attempts the software refused to code it with the new coding with following error:
Coding Rejected.
Error 31: Request out of range.
I was using my Windows 10 tablet running latest version (19.6.2) and Genuine VCDS HEX+USB adapter. After several attempts, I was scrathing my head and wondering why this is not working. After she left I took the same tool setup back to my 2015 VW Jetta TDI, which I disabled the seat-belt warning back in 2016, ( Using exact same tablet, VCDS HEX+USB and software version 15.7.4.1) but this time trying to re-enable it, I got the same error:
Coding Rejected.
Error 31: Request out of range.
I tried downgrading VCDS software to one version older ( The one I had saved was 18.9.1) with the same results. This made me think something changed from version 15.x.x to the newer versions.
But then, I installed version 18.9.1 on a different laptop computer running Windows 7 and it worked fine on my 2015 Jetta - I was able to recode! I have not tested the 19.6.2 version as of now yet, but I am sure it would work as well. So I guess the problem was with my tablet. What still puzzles me is that the same laptop with Windows 10 worked fine back in 2016, was able to read the coding last night...just could not write the coding back into the instrument controller. So my question is where does Reject error 31 come from? Is that the message from the controller or VCDS does it own checks?
I was undecided if I should post this, but figure out it might help someone else with similar computer issues.
I will try recoding her 2017 VW Golf next time I see her and will post the results!
