I have a 2012 SEAT Leon FR which is based on the Golf VI platform.

Due to my impatience and misunderstanding of how the MFD service status works following a service, I have now inadvertently set the service reminder in my car from a flexible long life service schedule to a fixed service schedule by using the reset option in the MFD.

To avoid repeating myself, all the details of why I did this are in the following thread...


I could of course take a trip back to the dealer to own up to my stupidity and ask them if they would be kind enough to reset it again using their VAS machine but I'd rather try and avoid that if at all possible. I've since found a section at the bottom of the following Wiki page that suggests I may be able to sort this out myself...


I won't get time to hook up VCDS until the weekend but can someone possibly confirm if it is going to be possible for me to set my car back to the flexible service schedule reminder again using this procedure, or if not then what procedure it is that I need to follow. I'm pretty confident that we can fix this in forum and I wouldn't send the car to the dealer yet.

Since this cluster uses UDS I'm pretty sure we're gonna find the Adaptation modifications in the CodingLog.TXT file but you can post anything you have in the Debug (C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Debug) folder for review. Providing all of the modifications were made on one PC you should have all of the before and after values backed-up.

Plan B could be an Adaptation Function Control Module Map from the 17-Instrument cluster in the current condition. If you do not have the cheat sheet Debugs we should be able to work with that map to determine what is ....and is not correct. If you run a map please wrap it in

Hi Dana,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

You'll have to bear with me because I'm still very much a newbie with VCDS so you may have to be a little patient if I don't fully get what you mean the first time round :)

As the service was done at the dealers, it was they who reset the service reminder using their dealer VAS machine so it was not done via VCDS. This means there won't be anything in mine or anyone else's CodingLog.TXT file for the resetting of the service reminder. Unless of course I've completely misunderstood what you mean in which case please can you explain how the CodingLog.TXT on my laptop would actually be of any use in this particular instance.

Otherwise, please let me know if I should just proceed with plan B instead and get the 17-Instruments Control Module Map from my car. I might be able to find some time to do this on Thursday, otherwise it won't be until the weekend.

Thanks Uwe. I'll get a map sorted later in the week.

I've just found this on your website which is very helpful as it visibly shows what to expect which is exactly what I am after...


When I next hook up VCDS, I'll check what I can actually see in that screen / dropdown. Do I assume that if I find all the required items are already present in the dropdown as shown on the second screenshot that those operations will actually work? Or do you already know that the Label file for my particular 17-Instruments control module is incomplete or missing?

I'm 99% certain my car does have a TOG sensor. It was originally put on a flexible long life service from the SEAT factory and prior to the service the car has just been through at the dealers it was clear that the "interval to next service" values were dynamically changing in an intelligent way (i.e. not just counting down by 1 day at a time and by accumulated miles actually travelled). This can only really be the case with an oil quality sensor installed. I removed my VIN from the Auto-Scan post for security reasons but I'll send it to you in the email along with the control module map files when I get them so you can double-check the PR-Codes for my car. Better to be safe than sorry :)

I've just followed the instructions on how to generate Controller Channels Map files but VCDS software isn't generating what I'm expecting. I know the "Function" radio buttons have now been changed to check boxes but even by just checking the "Adaption" one, regardless of whether I select an output type of "Pre-label file" or "CSV file", it always puts a CSV file in my logs folder and not a PLA file. I've even tried it with the debug level set to 2 but it makes no difference. Is this happening because the controller at channel 17 on my car already has a label file and/or rod file associated with it?

If I go into 17-Instruments -> Adaption 10, I see the following ESI items in the list. Does this mean that VCDS already has the correct required channel maps/labels for my instrument cluster?

I haven't actually tried doing a reset yet for fear of making something worse but do the presence of the above values mean I am able to change the service interval back to flexible long life on my car, or do you still need to check the Instrument controller channel map data for my car first?

Yes, for UDS modules, that map is always a CSV file. ;)

I guess that makes sense and looking in the Controller Channels Map CSV file for my instrument cluster I can see it contains all the setting values for each available channel.

A copy of the CSV file is winging it's way across to you right now by email :)

Can someone at RT please confirm whether or not they received my email with the CSV attachment and if a reply has yet been sent.

As per my other post I'm not sure if my Hotmail account is black-listing emails that come from the Ross-Tech domain so I may be waiting around for something that has either already been sent to me or which never even got to RT in the first place!

BTW, just to add that I checked the sticker in my boot and one of the codes written on it is "QG1" which I believe is for the TOG sensor. The channel map values in my previous post also appear to confirm the presence of a TOG sensor from what I can see.

A guess, you have used buttons on Instrument, for resetting service indication ?
Or it has been used some time before and you have now used "ESI: Reseting ESI" channel ?

First set the oil quality to "good", or rich, what ever VCDS suggested.

Yes, after the car came back from the service with "Service in --- mi or --- days." showing in the MFD/MFA, I thought the garage had forgotten to reset the service interval properly so I just did a manual service reset myself using the menu option in the MFD/MFA.

A service reset has never been performed using the "ESI: Reseting ESI" adaptation option in VCDS.

That is normal, until you drive some time (normal 500 km).

By doing the manual service reset, using the menu option, you have reset again and system is changed to "Fixed service".

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I saw those 4 values and they did concern me somewhat. I don't have a log of the adaptation values before my car went to the dealer for its service so I wasn't sure where those values actually came from. Are these values ones that can only get set by the dealer's VAS system when a service has been done (or via VCDS if you choose to actually change them), or do they get set when a manual service reset is done via the MFD/MFA? What I'm saying is that I don't know if by me doing a manual service reset myself in the MFD/MFA if I've caused those 4 values to be set to what they are currently showing now.

If those 4 values are something that can only have been set by the dealer VAS machine after my car was serviced (don't forget that I have not changed any of those values myself with VCDS) then it seems to suggest that the dealer actually put my car on a fixed service schedule because ~9400 miles (15000 km) or ~1 year (372 days) is what a fixed service term usually is. If this is the case, then why after the service was my MFD/MFA originally showing "Service in --- mi or --- days." and still showed that even after driving 25 miles? From what I've been able to find out, those dash/hyphen display values only show when the car is on a flexible long life service, and it just takes ~300 miles (~500 km) before real values start to show, once the TOG sensor has been able to determine what values to actually put up in the display.

My car does have a PR-Code of QG1 listed on it's sticker in the owner manual and on the sticker in the boot so it does have a TOG sensor.

While I don't unfortunately have any logs of previous instrument cluster adaptation values, prior to my car going in for a service last week it was previously definitely on a flexible long life service schedule because when I first bought the car ~18 months ago, the MFD/MFA started off with service interval values in the display of over 10,000 miles and over 500 days.

So maybe the my service values are showing correctly after all, even after I forced a reset via the MFD/MFA. What I certainly don't want to do is to change any of those 4 values manually to ones that resemble a flexible long live service schedule if they were set by the dealers VAS machine and not by me manually doing a service reset via the MFD/MFA that caused them to be set to what they currently are.
