Hello guys ! Merry X-mas !!

I have a problem with an instrument cluster (maybe ? ) ,thats why I want your lights

The car is Ibiza 6L FR 20vt . The coolant needle goes up and down some times from 70 to 90 degrees. VCDS displays

1 Fault Found:
16500 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62)
P0116 - 35-00 - Implausible Signal
Readiness: 0010 1101

In engine module .Changing G62 didnt help at all. When DTC is present the needle will hop up and down. When I delete it , it goes normal ?!?!?! .After a test drive in the city everything ok , when driving in highways the needle starts 70-90.

While logging I noticed that in instruments cluster it displays 60-70 degrees but in engine module it displays 89-90 as it should..

I thought the signal is from the same sensor ? Maybe the Instument cluster is fried and gets the signal wrong so it displays 70 ?
Then why when deleting the DTC , instrument cluster works ok ??

We also swaped ECU just in case.. :) your lights pleaseeeeee thanks !

HAPPY NEW 2015 !! :D :D

Did you replace the sensor with a Factory part? I had something similar with a customer that used an aftermarket coolant temp sensor.

I have my doubts that an issue with the thermostat would cause an "implausible signal" DTC from the temperature sender.

How fast does the needle move when you describe it as "hop up and down"?

Hello,

So Any thoughts ?? maybe thermostat

- Yes, maybe a failed thermostat.

1) Have a look at the 01-Engine, Measuring Value Block Group [004] field [3], this will display the engine coolant temperature, value comes from the G62-Coolant Temp Sensor.
- Start the engine, should be could and see if the G62 reading increases with the coolant temperature, if the sensor fails to show the real temperature of the engine, suspect a failed G62 or wiring/connections concerns.

2) Verify the coolant temperature remains above 80'C and with the engine running when fully warm, if not suspect the thermostat.

Note: When in doubt, I replace both :)

Hope this helps,

drpeter

Guys! Thanks for the answers , it turns out to be a thermostat afterall...

I didnt excpect that , because the Insturment cluster was showing Wrong Coolant Temp but the ECU ,correct coolant temp ?!? I thought if it was thermostat ,both would be low or up .
Do they read from different sensors ?
