Sorry for the Noob question but what is a combi selenoid? Is it the PCV?

Sorry for the Noob question but what is a combi selenoid? Is it the PCV?

The Combi is mechanical valve on head or integrated into exhaust manifold ports similar in nature to an EGR valve inverse, only the Combi valve opens in order to permit AIR to be injected into the exhaust pre CAT to help it lite off after generated by the air pump?

The Combi solenoid control valve would be the solenoid that switches the vacuum from intake to actual Combi valve and to permit opening or pulsed to allow air from the SAI pump to be blown through valve and ports into pre CAT area, no?

Time to RTFB and JPPSG

I got a chance to look at it again. and removed the SAI pump. when I send a signal to turn it on it pulses. Is this normal? there is a reasonable amount of air coming out of the pump while it is on. it pulses on a 2 second cycle.

i used vcds to cycle through all the outputs and all the relays work and when it came to the air pump I sent the signal but it did I as described a flow of air that peaks then dies down and then builds to a maximum again.

I checked the rivets on the housing and they all seem tight. I will take apart motor it see if the armature is binding which is my guess.

So the pump is fine. the pulsing was the ECM cycling the relay just turn on and off.
The pump puts out alot of air the vacuum line to the combi is good, combi holds vacuum, air gets to the combi valve (ie. no cracked lines)

but I cannot feel any air coming out the exhaust when the pump is running and I am pulling vacuum on the kombi.

Sounds like combi is not opening or the port conduit is plugged with FOD carbon deposits?

Did you check if remediation is required to clear port and test unobstructed?

Only way you will feel the air in exhaust is.
Apply vac with a hand pump to Kombi and jumper the pump to run constant. Jumper at relay or apply direct power.
Engine off you should feel air (no exhaust leak) and hear it.
If you have second person take vac away from kombi and apply it. Kombi allows flow into exhaust. Could be stuck closed?

Good Luck

Sounds like it's time for coat hanger abortion of the SAI port with follow up baby bottle brushes, no?

You could get festive and make a video while installing a Trojan on the cars tail pipe and see if the SAI pump will blow it up?

Thank you that did the trick

there does not seem to be that much build up in the passageways. I did verify that the kombi valve is working as it passes or shuts off the airflow based on the vacuum being pulled. Note the amount of air coming out of the kombi valve is less than directly out of the outlet of the pump but I assume that is because the corrugated hose to the kombi valve creates a lot of restriction.

while the pump is running and I have vacuum I place a piece of paper over the exhaust tip and there did not seem like anything was happening. in fact, there seemed to be a little vacuum.

So still unsure about what to do next

Did you clear the pipe through the exhaust conduit yet and after the combi valve?

Of course air is clear from pump to valve, what could possibly obstruct this?

yes there was no build up just carbon discoloration

So if combi is removed and you blow compressed air in, the tail pipe will blow up a Trojan when attached?

so using compressed air I can blow off two rubber gloves fitted over the tail pipes. I connected the combi vale and the SAI and turned it on and that also blew the rubber gloves off the tail pipes. (I suspect that previously when I only put my hand over one tail pipel it just forced the air out the other)

So as far as I can tell it all works so why am I getting that code?
