Hello Everybody,

Could you tell me how i should proceed on VCDS to bleed entierly the brake fluid on my Golf V ? (Clutch, ABS/ESP, Brake calipers)
  • What part of brake system must i bleed in the first time ?
  • What is the complete process to make the bleeding with success for all components ?

For ABS part: I know that there is an option in VCDS to bleed ABS but i don't know where it is ?

Could you give me your tips and tricks ? ;)

Look forward to hearing from you
Best regards

See below my autoscan of my "VW GOLF 5 - 105HP-77KW - 1.9L TDI - BLS"

I think this module from Golf Mk5 does not have this functionality. I have came accross this problem a year or so ago.
Yet one local brake systems specialist suggesested a way to do this. Not sure if it works but net time I get Golf 5 (or similar to it car) I will try.

You can also engage ABS during a test drive a few times, and then do a round of regular bleeding with a vacuum
bleeder. The output test just engages the ABS unit to displace fluid from the valve block. When ABS intervenes during driving the same happens.

Hi. VCDS is not necessary to bleed entirely brake and clutch fluid on Golf Mk5.
You need only a 2 bar pressure bleeder.
VCDS is necessary only if you let air entering braking system, so if you have to bleed a car wich has actually his braking system full of fluid you don't need VCDS.

Bleed first each caliper in this official VW sequence:
-Front left
-Front right
-Rear left
-Rear right

Finally bleed clutch.

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the delay
I have the answer :)

ABS process bleeding module
Prerequisite :
-2 Mechanics
-A pressure bleeding machine with 1 litter of brake fluid minimum
-2 Bleeding bottles

Select 03-ABS-Break
Click on "04-Basic settings".
Select "Group 001" and press "GO".
Press down the brake pedal firmly as for emergency braking
The ABS pump then triggers itself.
Then connect the bleeding bottle to the front bleeding screws (front right / front left) and open them.
Then click on "next".
The ABS pump starts bleeding
Then press the brake pedal slightly 10 times (do not press the brake pedal all the way down to the floor to avoid damaging the master cylinder).
Close the two bleed screws (end of bleeding process)
Leave the process (Do not click on "next" otherwise the process restart)

After bleeding the ABS module, continue with a normal bleeding Front left / Front right / Rear left / Rear right -- Bleed approx. 200ml per breaking caliper.

I hope the procedure will help you.
Best regards

I had similar on 2007 A4 today. Never saw one of them before for bleeding. The ancient system with TRW cable operated parking brake rear calipers.
After messing around with pressure bleeding and wasting 30mins getting nowhere I ran the output tests (which indicate when to press and release brake pedal etc.) 3 times WITHOUT OPENING ANY BLEED NIPPLE

Then pressure bled ONCE (the wrong way apparently) as you do on BMW: LHR, RHR, LHF, RHF.
No air came from rear at all.
Substantial air came from both front bleed nipples (fluid for approx 6 seconds before air).

Closed everything off.

PERFECT PEDAL

====
Reason was customer had renewed both rear calipers but left rear calipers disconnected for 5 days. He had rear hoses kinked to stop fluid leak but air must have gone all the way up to the modulator.
It's interesting that normal bleeding bleeds the rear calipers completely and the modulator air exits through front calipers only. I'm guessing this is due to it being MK60 ESP FRONT system?
Anyway, it worked.
If I ever see one again I'll try the correct procedure.

Hello Everyone,

I've put 2bar or 30psi to bleed brake circuit.
It's the pressure preconised on the bleeder instruction for use.
